u and me both

been sick since tuesday with bad sore throat

edit

my husband is not lucky

^Haha!

I'm going on 2 weeks here.. sore throat, severe coughing from an upper respiratory infection, and congestion. My lungs and bronchial passage ways feel like they've gone through a shredder. I've gotten about 4 hours of sleep the past 2 days. I lost my voice. I haven't been to the gym in 2 weeks. I'm really a mess.

Well, hopefully, the coedine laced cough syrup will let me catch up on the Z's tonight.. I'm getting kinda cranky.

Thank you, LJ!

WonTon soup? I thought Chicken Noodle?

Anything that has real chicken stock in it will do. It's not so much about drinking the chicken soup that has medicinal value (the fluids help), but the vapors. Science is not sure why but the vapors help break down mucous and shorten the length of a cold. Also, I've posted this suggestion a few times for people on the board that had colds and/or sore throats: Drink homemade ginger tea. If you're interested I'll give you the simple recipe.

Ginger? I was always told to drink it with honey. By the way, Wonton soup might possibly be the greatest thing ever created. I'm hungry now.

Drink lots of fluids like gatorade to try and piss away all the mucous. I once had a really bad case of bronchitis--my poop was literally mucous. Maybe you can try that, LOL.

Hope you get better soon.

Please. I'm beyond desperate. I've never had cold (or URI) this bad.

Yeah, ginger tea is really helpful for sore throats and breaking down mucous. All you need to do is peel a few fingers of ginger, chop it coarsely, and steep it in boiling water for 5-10 minutes. Then strain it. Now you may reheat it with some honey for sweetness, or drink it cold. It's also good at night if you don't like to take store bought cold remedies, like NyQuil--to help you sleep. Just add a shot or two of your favorite booze to the warm ginger tea. You will definitely sleep.

I hope you went to the doctor, and that he/she determined if it was viral (the flu or common cold) or bacterial. If it's the flu, you should be on an anti-viral like Tamiflu. But that only really works if you take it within 48 hours after the onset of symptoms. If it's bacterial, you should be on antibiotics. If not, you will just have to ride it out. Just make sure to check in with your doctor if the cough gets worse or linger. You will want to make sure it has not progressed to bronchitis or pneumonia.

Thanks. I'll try the ginger remedy.

That was my worry. I know of 2 people who have walking pneumonia. I went to the doctor yesterday. I'm the kind of person who needs to be feeling like death to go see a doctor so trust me when I tell you how bad this is. She did not hear anything in my lungs to indicate it had progressed to bronchitis or pneumonia but did say it sounded like a really nasty URI and the best she could do was prescribe a heavy duty cough syrup. Unfortunately, I have to rely on rest, otc drugs and home remedy pain relief for the irritated bronchial tubes, throat and sinuses.

I am the same way with doctors. Luckily, I have been remarkably healthy all of my life. Although I've had a self-imposed "countdown to melanoma" from my days as a lifeguard and sun worshiper (no not Re, for those worried about my spiritual well being). I hope you feel better soon. Until then, plant yourself down on the couch or in bed, and REST.

I think I have a ****ty immune system because I live a fairly healthy lifestyle yet still get more than my fair share of illnesses. It takes a lot to get me in to the doctor, though.

The funny thing is I'm gonna have to cancel my flu shot appt on Monday because of this.

Oscillococcinum. I swear by it. You can't find it everywhere, so call the pharmacy first before you make the trip. I was only joshing with you a page or so ago. I didn't realize you were really hurtin' that bad. Being sick bites. GWS.

Thanks, I'll have my hubby call the pharmacy.
