Gainzo
Villanova University... Spectacular at football. Spectacular at bball. Discuss? Since I go to Philly 3 or 4 times a year to visit Drexel & Villanova I would give Drexel the nod based on location. You guys are out in the boondocks! war ensemble
I wouldn't judge what the best school is in the world based on athletics. Just sayin'. I'm sure there are some schools that would own it at Rugby and Soccer, to name two sports.
uart
They have a football team? Yeah. You've heard of Brian Westbrook, right? It's FCS, but it's about as good as it gets in FCS. As for basketball, Villanova will be very competitive in the Big East this year. Scotty Reynolds is a preseason Wooden candidate, and every relevant player from last year's team is back, a year older, a year more experienced, a year more mature. Syracuse is going to be good as well, but there are only two or three teams in the Big East that you can honestly count out this year.

You guys are out in the boondocks! Well, that depends, if you like getting shot and/or ass-raped then I suppose Drexel IS in a great location for that... Drexel and Penn are in the worst neighborhood in Philly. Villanova is on the Mainline... 20 minutes to downtown Philadelphia and far away from skyrocketing crime. Not to mention the superior athletics and academics at 'Nova.

I think the BE is going to be a fun conference to watch down the stretch of the season. Sooo many teams contending for preseason top 25 spots....Not to mention 4 teams I believe in most top 10s. Cant wait to get the season started!!
uart
http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/810677.html Villanova has the 4th-ranked Recruiting class for 2009 right now. Recruiting for '09 isn't over yet, though, and Jay Wright is going after 5-star prospect, Dominic Cheek (SF) as well. Cheek is going to decide between Nova and Kansas it seems. '09 isnt a huge recruiting year for 'Cuse. We're bringing a local 3 star guard and got a transfer from Iowa St. who will be eligible to play next season. Our 2010 class, including two 5 star prospects and a 4 star prospect already verbaled, is going to be a totally different story however.
124
Spectacular at Football? I just checked the Top 10 and I don't see Villanova in there at all. Arn't they a D2 Football program anyway?
KudosForND
Notre dame make final four in hockey almost every year. ND is a top 25 bball team right now im not sure but i think womens soccer just won last year?and mens soccer is usually good. ND football I don't know suck right now but they can always turn it around and have best history ever to me top sports colleges are ND,Florida,USC

gangreenman
3-0 2-0... Big couple of games coming up vs. Fla on Monday, Kansas/Washington on Tuesday, and UVA on Friday. This is a huge week for Syracuse. If they come out of it 4-0, they will likely be the 8th BE team in the top 25.

I wouldn't call that "almost every year making the final four" (National Titles 0). ND Basketball? They lost in the 2nd round of the tourney last season.(National Titles 0). ND Football? They are pretty bad (11 National Titles. 3 of them happened when I was alive and the last came in 1988). Go Irish!

gangreenman
Should I just give up and let this turn into a Big East thread? Sure. By the way Syracuse 8-0 heading into a 10 day break. Looking forward to seeing how this team fairs at Memphis on December 20th. Barring a disaster to Long Beach St, Canisus, or Cleveland State, Cuse should be heading into that game undefeated. Gotta be honest though Im really looking forward to Big East play starting a little less than a month from now...
uart
Villanova's big test comes next week vs. Texas. They need to prove that they can beat a team like Texas, so it is going to be pretty important. I'm hoping we can neutralize their big men and that our scoring stays consistent. It's also a huge test for Dante Cunningham, who had his third double-double last night, and has been averaging high double-digits in scoring, and a ton of boards, but not necessarily against teams like Texas. gangreenman
UConn barely escaped Buffalo tonight... Overrated? Seriously. If that guy on Buffalo that missed like 5 layups in the last 5 mins of the game today made only 1 or 2 of them, Buffalo would've won. The Big East has had its fair share of lumps and too- close- for- comforts the past couple of weeks... Thats for sure.
