Harry85
Why cant Vernon Gholston our number 1 draft pick get in a game that is 47-3? that to me is very alarming and makes me really wonder what the hell is going on with him? Is he really not showing anything in practice that he cant at least play garbage minutes in the 2nd half for at least a series? I know its still early and hes trying to get used to the NFL and a new position, but how is he going to adjust if he cant even get on the field??!!Dustin keller is starting to get alot of playing time now, and lowery has been a starter since week 1, but what about Vernon? If im the coaching staff i really think they need to find a way to get him on the field, or else why did we pick him in the first place if we arent going to even groom him esp in a blowout game against the Rams??? crashingjet
Gholston didn't have 1 tackle today. Sad really, I hope he's ok.
Jbro22
Don't know what the fuss is about, we all knew he'd be a bust. Especially the first year.
jetscott
he will go down as one of the biggest busts in jets history. Mark it down

Amen brother. Even if he hasnt shown much in practice, the fact we used the 6th pick and tons of $$ means we should have thrown him into the fray. Absolutely disturbing that he was not on the field in the 2H. This is ALL on the GM and Coach if he is a bust. These guys get paid big $$ to make the right decisions......How about Joe Flacco instead there - take a seat for a year or 2.
NFLs StepChild
He was on the field today. I don't know how many snaps, they were limited. And he wasn't in as a pass rush specialist. This whole mindset is assinine though. He is a guy with HUGE upside that needs to be trained up at the pro level. He got by on athleticism alone in college and was very successful. He barely if at all played football in high school and the Jets fan base want him to come in and become LT because of his draft position. It's just not how the draft works. You pick high for elite athleticism and talent, it's why 40 times and combine results get you into the 1st round or tumbling down to the 2nd day. I know you all read the reports on him and knew what you were getting when he was selected. He's an enormous physical speciman with off the charts measurables who needs to adapt and learn the intricacies of the game. When he can grasp the defense and be trusted out there to manage his assignments you will see more of him. Till then he's a guy who has a sky high cieling who hasn't put it all together. You may not be happy with that but that's the reality and that is how the draft works.
KINGDIRK
Thats all fine and good, but in a game when were up 30 points against an awful team, he should be in the game on every passing down. At least give him a chance to chance down the QB...with his natural athleticism. Up 30 points whats the worst thing that could happen?

If an UDFA deserves to play more than Gholston I hope they'll play him and make Gholston earn it.
DEPRESSED JET!!!!!!
I agree, when it was garbage time I knew VG was coming in . And when he was in a few snaps he was in pass coverage. This is my only beef with the CS is how they are handling Gholston. Can we at least see what the kid can do before the bust label is planted? So what if his technique aint there yet. Your up 30 points, game in the bag. Give him some PT to get a little game experience....

Marques Murrell is active and he's shown much more ability to get to the passer.

UP 30+ in the 2H, why not play both of them...give a couple of starters some rest....or at least spilt time

Irish Jet
What confused me is that they were putting him in early on on 1st and 2nd down and then taking him out on passing situations. I think it would make MUCH more sense to do the exact opposite and try and ease him into the D rather than throwing him into complex situations. I really don't think this coaching staff has any confidence at all in him. I saw him trying to rush the passer on a play action fake. To call it pathetic would be an understatement. If he really is this bad, then he shouldn't be on the field.

NFLs StepChild
This is funny A game like today, and people are going to attack the CS First of all, there is never a game you can't criticise what could have been done better. It is OK to demand excellence, it should be expected. Jets fans are too easily placated by a victory, and then to quick to cry in their cornflakes about being the SOJs everytime they get punched in the mouth. A little bit of higher expectations and demanding more of this team is needed imo. Secondly, I'm not making any judgement for or against the CS, but my point is the decision on how to use Gholston is up to the CS.
jason423
We were looking for him hoping to see a glimpse but he was in for only 3 plays or so all in coverage. To be honest VG really doesnt even deserve to be active right now. The fact that they did not want to play him at all on defense today shows just how behind he is in his development. He needs a great deal of help in the offseason on learning to shed blockers. Even on special teams it is obvious how he cant do anything once he gets smacked one time. Further, if he has glaring weaknesses (which he does) it's better to hide them than to expose them in a game that's already in the bag. At least it won't be 100% obvious what to audible or call if/when he gets in there when it is a meaningful situation.
Ghost
It's sad and I agree but I think Gholston is going to bust out his shell eventually. I still believe in this guy more than anyone and I know for a fact either next year or the following year, he'll be that dominant force.
