bear
And put Vernon Gholston at DE?He may be a bit undersized for a 3-4DE,butwhat he lacks i size,he makes up with obscene strength, and speed.Ellis is 31,and we have Pace,Thomas, and Gholtson (all first rounders)Why waste a draft pick, when we can fill Ellis spot from within? RSJ
The Jets have put VG's hand down in passing situations and the result was the same. Give him time. This is a hard position for a rookie LB to come in and make a difference at. I still think he will make an impact this season at some point. JiFtheOracle
Ellis is having an amazing year and when you have Jenkins doing what he is doing, Coleman is talking away the edge in the run. No need to force the issue. Our defense is playing spectacular.
gang_green03
So lets increase his learning curve even more by having him learn yet another new position. He is not a 3-4 end, did not play it in college, and is not built to be a 3-4 end. Why would it make sense to put him there?
war ensemble
He wouldn't fit the bill for a 3-4 end at all. It would just be pancake after pancake for those O-lineman. Better off leaving him learn the linebacking position, hoping he can get a better sense of the field and tackling skills.
RSJ
My bad. I should have read the whole post. No way VG can play end in a 3-4.
Arsis
Gholston will be a very fine backer for us next season. I don't get why people care this much about him? He is gonna hurt the team if he plays this season and we are playing well. Forgot about him this year and move on. Even if he is a bust or a wasted pick. That is the kind of thing you worry about in the off-season. Worry about the season, the pats game and how we are playing well. Especially on D. No need to mess up the chemistry we have on D or waste time on fruitless expierments. It's not broke so don't fix it. One player, one draft pick is not more important than the team. Right now, It's all about the two most important games of our season back to back.

Jetsfan1015
every time I have noticed him with his hand down he has one move and tries to bullrush the tackle and the tackles generally eats him up. He needs to learn technique and some moves before he can become a solid pass rusher. He just isnt going to over power the tackles in this league like he did in college. ECURB
Never, he is not a 3-4 DE. He will try for the next year or two to make him if 3-4 LB... if he cant... cut ties and move on (like Vilma)

No way VG can play DE in the 3-4. Maybe as a spot pass rusher, but you don't draft a guy # 6 to be a situational player. Not for the kind of money they are paying him. Beautiful kid by the way man. villain_the_foe
I dont think VG would do good at DE in the 3-4 so hopefully never. Well maybe you need to think differently because he's certainly not progressing at the moment at LB. His speed and strength alone will help that Line out. What was VG's "major" excitement about coming out of college? It was his quick first step. He is simply out of position. He's great at what he does, but his game seems to be limited. Thats cool though, If we put him where he could succeed then it really doesnt matter what anyone thinks he can or cant do. He's proven that he can get up field. Now, with blitzing LB's in a 3-4 and a NT Like Jenkins, could you imagine having a speeding and very strong DE with Pace, Harris, and the rest of our LB core staring the QB square in the face? Gholston will have one on one's more than people would think. Dude is NOT getting a fair shake this year. He cant play the position. Switch him already! SoFlaJets
I don't know Papa Bear but thank God we haven't NEEDED him to contribute so far this year. Could you imagine if we were 2-7 how many Gholston Is A Bust threads we'd be seeing. Hey you should change your screename to Papa Bear
