Who wants Favre to manage the game, not me!

I know this is not the popular opinion right now, and I know that most of you feel that this game hinges on Favre not making any mistakes, but I am taking a different tack here. We have had a game manager, one of the best in the league, for years and what has it gotten us? Streaky mediocrity and occasional wild card playoff births. We have beaten some bad teams, lost to most good ones, and just chugged along. Finally the Jets are in possesion of a combination of two things that they have not really had in my life as a Jets fan, a future hall of fame qb who can do things that defy football logic, and a stout defense that may very well be elite. Yes Favre's decisions and improvised play can lead to turnovers, but that is a risk that comes with a very good possibility of a very high reward. With the way our defense has played, I am fine with Favre taking some chances throwing deep into NE's territory. At worst we will have to rely on Jenkins and the defense to bail us out if it goes wrong once or twice, but at best we can snap NE's neck, something I have never seen ANY OTHER TEAM, the Jets especially, do. For the first time in years I have all the confidence in that Jet defense to do their part if needed. I for one am totally sick of that attitude that Brett and the Jets have to manage the game and that type of playcalling. I want to feel the thrill that Indy and Pats fans feel as their all pro QB's take games over and dominate. I want to jump out of my seat in foxborough and scream at Favre to Coles deep in the red zone all day. I want Favre to throw bombs all over the feild. I want shock and awe on offense. I want a game that will destroy the hopes and dreams of every Patriots player as well as their wives and children's. I want the stands in Gillette to be empty by the middle of the third quarter. I want this win to be so profound and dominating that it makes up for years of humiliation and heartache at the hands of Brady and the Pats. I want to feel what the old timer fans felt when they watched Broadway Joe swagger on the sidelines and promise victory then deliver it on the field.

Brett and the Jets have the ability to do all these things and more, let's hope they all realize what they have and don't play to not lose, let's hope they play to win.

damn Joe, you're getting me ****ing psyched up even more-great post.... nommed

Thanks SoFLa, I just don't want to see them come out afraid to test the Pats secondary, I want to see Favre free to be himself. If the Pats lock up the deep ball than I am happy to see us take advantage of the short game and running, but lets look to bring it all on them!

Am I the only one who wants a balanced attack? The problem hasn't been that we don't throw deep, the problem had been it was either Run it up the gut into the Patriot strength or air it out into coverage. We get predictable and telegraph our intent. We need to be creative, not reckless.

What I would like to see is getting Washington the ball. I don't care how you do it, screen him, direct snap it, whatever. But get him the ball and he'll make plays. The Patriot second level is the weakness of their team. Seymour, Warren, Wilfork is about as good of a front 3 as you'll find in the league. So exploit areas around them. The Linebacking corps. sans Thomas is much slower and less of a threat.

Thomas Jones got held down the first game because we repeatedly ran it up the middle into the interior instead of the outside. Let's actually be creative instead of headstrong this time.

I do agree with the fact that we can't be conservative though. That's a killer. That's what always killed Herm's Jets. Conservatism and conventional play is going to fail against the patriots. You need to confuse them and mix it up.

And that is exactly the intent of my original post, I don't want the conservative game manager everyone is hoping for this weekend. Everyone is afraid of Favre mistakes, I am saying we have the defense to back us up, lets go at them!

There are 4 guys that the Patriots should not be able to handle tomorrow. Coles, Cotchery, Keller, and Washington. If Brad Smith were an actual receiver, i'd love him involved in something other than an end around or direct snap. But alas, he hasn't shown much.

With all respect to Thomas Jones, who's played very well for us this year, but he's the type of back that would struggle against New England.

I don't want Favre to manage the game in that sense, I simply want him not to do anything stupid like throwing up for grabs under pressure..

that would be good Chan...no "heave HO.... thar she goes" passes...do what Parcells made Vinny do in '98; If it ain't there throw it out of bounds as far as you can and try again the next play

Exactly!

Vinny in 98 proves that INT prone QB's can be tamed and still make big plays..

Wall of text! I am too illiterate to read it all, so I will just support the idea that we should throw on the Pats, which I bet is what you wrote. That pass D isn't all that great, they CAN and SHOULD be thrown on. I mean yeah we should mix in the run and use play action passes, but we won't win if we think we can just run right over them. They won't bend over and take it up the ass like a mod or the Rams do.

I've never seen Favre manage a game in any sense. If the outcome is remotely in doubt he's gonna be out there chucking it all over the goddamn place. That's just how it is.

Hopefully Favre will find Keller open for some long ones tomorrow night.

I can't wait!!

Agree.

I think Keller was deliberately featured in that Rams game to instill in him some confidence and get him ready to play a bigger role in the passing game. And the Pats should have real problems matching their slow LBs and weak secondary to cover Dustin. Keller can do for the Jets what Welker does for the Pats. Favre can hit Keller with seam passes and crossing patterns and then he takes off for big YACs gains.

Very true... With some of the boneheaded things the guy does it's amazing that he's only had 1 losing season in his career..

Because for every mistake Brett Favre makes he makes 5 or more great things happen after that.

The one thing I don't want is Favre throwing 2,4,5 15 picks tonight.

Win the game, that is all that matters.

If it means throwing ball 40 times do it

If it means playing a dink and dunk game, do it.

If it means runnning the ball 50-60 times do it.

Just win the game. That is all that matters.
