How the hell do you get rid of a Trojan Virus???

There's a Trojan Virus on my computer, causing some problems that might be getting worse. I have a spyware remover program, paid for it, but its not getting the job done with this problem.

1 of my programs to fight these things is telling me that its a Trojan malware type, with aliases such as: Vundo (McAfee), Trojan.Vundo, TR/Vundo.Gen(Avira), Troj/VirtumGen (Sophos), Trojan: Win32/Vundo.K (Microsoft).

Anybody know any kind of solution/programs that I could use, (for free would be nice) ?

You know what to look for? I know Vundo has random 6 letter executables that run under the svchost.exe. But I looked that up specific, I don't know how some of you guys read that cold..

If there's blatant exploits I can help him, but if theres anything I dont understand I'll forward it to some people who can.

Some free sites I suggest you join:

www.aumha.net

www.castlecops.com

Both of these places specialize in people with PC's with various problems, especially malware, viruses, etc. The help is friendly and frequently quite detailed, similar to the advice offered by Max, NJ and CTM, except the sites are set up specifically to handle these kinds of problems so there are more people like them around.

Both will encourage you to post your HiJack This logs for them to inspect, after you have done the prescribed things beforehand.

Google that particular strain of virus. Some of these Trojans won't be detected by common virus programs. I got one a few back and nothing I ran would get rid of it, till I googled it. Someone posted step by step directions on how to eliminate it. Give that a shot.

That's actually a very good answer. Chances are, you aren't the first to have this problem and there is a solution when googled.

So I used the program CTM posted and it seems like it got rid of the problem, for the most part. I'm gonna keep fighting it with other programs too. Gonna try and completely get rid of it, as I think i just weakened it alot but didnt completely cut it out. Not sure though.

thanks to everyone for helping

norton works the best, imo. ever since i've had it i never have problems with my computer...and i do visit soem questionable sites at times. the one time or 2 that somehting did get through, norton found it and either got rid of it or brought me to the ecurity response page that showed me how. best thing i ever did for my computer. i'm talking years with no problems now.

I've always felt Norton was the worst. Might as well keep the viruses, they're going to strain your computer just as much as Norton's software does.

Max had a pretty good suggestion. Spybot Search and Destroy works wonders, and it isn't too taxing on the machine. I'd use that coupled with Spyware Doctor to get rid of everything already there and make sure nothing more gets in.

never had a problem with it taxing my system...and that was even when i had an old single core processor and only 1 gig of ram. my computer always ran great with the norton......i guess everyone has what they like to use best.
