"The Tennessee Two Step" Edition of Post of the Week - November 20, 2008

The Jets must - MUST - must play a solid game this week in all three phases of the game to have a chance in Tennessee against a fundamentally sound Titans team. This is going to be a big challenge for this team, I can't wait to see how it works out this weekend. Sunday can't get here soon enough for me.. Anyhow, on to this week's nominations...

Topic: Jets - Pats: Official Game Thread

Pennington did play action in 2006, and the ball arrived to the WR today.

The Nomination: "HAHA" StillerPaul

Editor's Note: At least Coles did not get another concussion trying to catch it...

Co-Runner-Up of the Week Sponsored by Pillsbury - you know, the guys with the dough-boy...

Topic: Now how do we feel about Mangini????

As someone else mentioned, you can be both happy about the win and critical about parts of the game.

Personally I love Eric Mangini. He's a smart guy and he's determined. If you don't believe that, then you haven't been paying attention. Those two are key ingredients in succeeding in almost any profession. Anyone looking to get rid of Mangini doesn't understand these things.

That said his intelligence I think handicaps sometimes as he tends to over analyze percentages. He doesn't take into account, I feel, that the percentage of success for certain plays/schemes/situations varies from team to team based on their talents. It's easier for Belichick to make gutsy calls because who is going to second guess him? Mangini doesn't have that luxury.

Bottom line I truly believe we're in capable hands but the CS in general just needs to start having as much fun as their players.

The Nomination: "well said" chadharmamoon

Editor's Note: Another great post - I'm agree more with this than the other. I'll say this, maybe patience is the thing that is needed here - it worked for the Steelers and Bill Cower, after all...

Co-Runner-Up of the Week Sponsored by Pillsbury - you know, the guys with the dough-boy...

Topic: Now how do we feel about Mangini????

Here is my overall take on Mangini. Hes a young guy and maybe will get much better down the line. Others have done it in the past and maybe he will do it as well. But right now if we want to win a Super Bowl it will need to be done in spite of Eric Mangini, not because of Eric Mangini. He's not Barry Switzer bad, but he's along the lines of Brian Billick/Mike Martz kind of bad. He has walked into a good thing and he is somewhat along for the ride.

At this stage now of his career there are a few things that can not be argued. His coaching philosophy is no different than that of Herman Edwards. He plays percentages and plays assuming the other team will make a mistake if you maximize their plays on the field. Even though he does not play the same defense his base theory is no different than that of the cover 2 coach with little faith in his personnel. He does not adjust well in games. All you have to do is look at the Jets 1st half and 2nd half splits in the last 3 years. Whether its protecting a lead or something else he coaches to not lose a game. I hated that style of coach when Herm was here and I hate it now.

The Nomination: "Great post!" CTM

Editor's Note: To be fair, this is a great post. I disagree with the comparison to Herm Edwards, though, but a solid post none the less...

Topic: 10,000 Posts - My Speech To The Nation

Max, Thor, SpermEdwards, BP, TaborJet, Faba, Smizzy, members of my family and friends, and my fellow citizens of the Nation:

There are no words adequate to express my thanks for the great honor that you have bestowed on me. I will do my utmost to be deserving of your trust.

When the first poster, Max, placed his hand upon the Bible, he stood less than a single day's journey by horseback from the raw, untamed Jets fan site wilderness . There were a handful of posters in a union of 3 forums. Today we are 600 times as many in a union of 9 forums.

We have lighted the world with our inventions, gone to the aid of our fellow Jets fans wherever in the world there was a cry for help, journeyed to the Meadowlands and safely returned. So much has changed. And yet we stand together as we many years ago.

When I took the JN oath three years ago, I did so in a time of economic and social stress as a fan of the NY Jets. Voices were raised saying we had to look to our past for the greatness and glory. But we, the present-day fans of the NY Jets, are not given to looking backward. In this blessed land, there is always a better tomorrow.

Three years ago, I spoke to you of a new beginning and we have accomplished that. But in another sense, our new beginning is a continuation of that beginning created years ago when, for the first time in history, Sean, the people said, was not our master, he was our servant; its only power that which we the people allow him to have. That system has never failed us, but, for a time, we failed the system. We asked things of our Nation that the Nation was not equipped to give. We yielded authority to the Soothsayer that properly belonged to posters or the fans themselves. We allowed PayPal donations and VIP Memberships to rob us of our earnings and savings and watched the great machine that had made us the most supportive fans on Earth slow down and the number of disenfranchised fans increase.

By 2005, we knew it was time to renew our faith, to strive with all our strength toward the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with an orderly society. We believed then and now there are no limits to growth and human progress when men and women are free to follow their opinions. And we were right to believe that. Donation requests have been reduced or even eliminated and more people are posting than ever before in our history.

We once again created a Nation, vibrant, robust, and alive. But there are many mountains yet to climb. We will not rest until every member of the Nation enjoys the fullness of freedom, dignity, and opportunity as our birthright. It is our birthright as citizens of JetNation, and we'll meet this challenge. These will be years when Jets fans have restored their confidence and tradition of progress; when our values of faith, family, players, coaching staff and administration were restated for a modern age; when our earnings were finally freed from Sean’s grip; when we made sincere efforts at meaningful threads, rebuilding our spam defenses, and developing new technologies, and helped preserve peace in the troubled world of Jets fan sites; when the Nation courageously supported the struggle for liberty, self-government, and free enterprise throughout the world, and turned the tide of history away from totalitarian darkness and into the warm sunlight of human freedom.

My fellow citizens, our Nation is poised for greatness. We must do what we know is right and do it with all our might. Let history say of us, "These were golden years—when the JetNation was reborn, when freedom gained new life, when JetNation reached for her best."

We strive for peace and security, heartened by the changes all around us. Since the turn of the decade, the number of fan sites in the world has grown fourfold. Posting freedom is on the march, and nowhere more so than our own hemisphere. Freedom is one of the deepest and noblest aspirations of the human spirit. People, worldwide, hunger for the right of self-determination, for those inalienable rights that make for human dignity and progress.

JetNation must remain freedom's staunchest friend, for freedom is our best ally. And it is the Internet world's only hope, to conquer poverty and preserve peace. Every blow we inflict against Internet bullies will be a blow against its dark allies of oppression and war. Every victory for human freedom will be a victory for world peace amongst all factions of Jets fans.

So we go forward today, a nation still mighty in its youth and powerful in its purpose. With our alliances strengthened, with our economy leading the world to a new age of economic and posting expansion, we look forward to a world rich in possibilities. And all this because we have worked and acted together, not as members of specific fan sites, but as fans of the NY Jets.

My friends, we live in a world that is lit by lightning. So much is changing and will change, but so much endures, and transcends time. History is a ribbon, always unfurling; history is a journey. And as we continue our journey, we think of those who traveled before us.

Now we hear again the echoes of our past: a lonely poster paces the darkened halls of his home, and ponders his struggle against the Soothsayer to preserve the Union; It is the American sound. It is hopeful, big-hearted, idealistic, daring, decent, and fair. That's our heritage; that is our song. We sing it still. For all our problems, our differences, we are together as of old, as we raise our voices to the God who is the Author of this most tender music. And may He continue to hold us close as we fill the world with our sound—sound in unity, affection, and love—one people under a love for the NY Jets, dedicated to the dream of a Jets Super Bowl title that He has placed in the human heart, called upon now to pass that dream on to a waiting and hopeful world.

God bless you and may God bless JetNation..

The Nomination: "." BP

Topic: Chad Pennington Will Never Comeback in the 4th Quarter

Oh boy! Looks like we have another self-proclaimed expert on internet civility!

serious_goat.jpg

Here's a wild idea: if we're such uncivilized brutes, maybe you should just leave. Forever.

Or, on the other hand, you and Aqua could try this: stop expecting Jets fans to respond favorably to unabashed trolling threads created by opposing fans on our message board. News flash: no one here is going to respond positively to a "Gee golly, that Chad Pennington is pretty good, eh chums?" thread, just like no one at FinHeaven would respond positively if I went over there and posted a "Wow, Brett Favre is really clutch!" thread.

We Jets fans don't suffer fools lightly. Keep that in mind and you'll save yourself a lot of disappointment.

The Nomination: ":rl:" BP

Editor's Note: All that's missing here is a "good day, sir". lol

It's probably because I have a Commodore 64, but when I opened it up it looked like there were hundreds of Youtube vids in it and it froze my computer.

Plus, you needed to be reminded that you're not taking **** over.

The Nomination: ":rl:" BP

Editor's Note: Commodore 64 and "not taking **** over" in the same post - classic...
