Post Game Thoughts

How many times tonight did you think to yourself the Jets are going to lose this game? I think I did at least 3 times. Maybe more. Crushed. Heartbroken. Frustrated. There is just no other way to describe the feelings you had when the Jets watched Randy Moss grab a ball in the end zone with 1 second remaining on the clock. Luckily the Jets signed a guy like Brett Favre for situations like this and rather than the same old Jets snatching defeat from the Jaws of victory, Favre and these Jets did snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

I had to go to a lousy bar to watch the game, so I didn't hear anything, but I was overly impressed with the way they were able to turn it up when they needed to. At first I wanted to throw my beer at Keller on the big screen, but the kid is something special and Thomas Jones just getting those 4-5 yards on every rush put the seal on the big night. Best game of the year I've seen so far.

OMFG we are 7-3!!!!

Just to add…the NFL Network is awful. The announcing is terrible. The glitches in the coverage is terrible. The camera angles stink. The lack of replays is unacceptable. Comparing these broadcasts to what you get on the networks is a joke. This is on par with basically how a station like TBS would present some low level bowl game in Arizona that is played in early December. It makes it very hard to follow a game and see where some of the mistakes or good plays really are.

Great analysis and I definately agree with the above.

Was I the only one who was pissed that they hardly showed the down & distance?

I was screaming all night, "How many ****ing yards do they need!"

And to make it clear: Eric Mangini remains this team's greatest weakness.

Once again our coaching rears it's ugly head. Mangini excuse for running the prevent (SNY post game) sounded like a coach that was scared to lose or win. Again we need a bonifide DC not Sutton or anyone else who fiddles to Mangini tune.

Happy about the win but scared sh-tless about the rest of the season.

Then according to aec4 you're not a real fan.:D

Great analysis dude. There is so much to look forward to after that game. I think we can compete with the elite teams this year, we just need to be more aggressive on defense. Enough with the 3 man rush.

Great Breakdown!

You left out a scathing criticism of the pass defense which was god awful again..

Also agreed on NFL network, terrible job by them..

There is just no excuse for the pass defense. Other than Revis we just do not have players that can cover. Mentally they made a huge mistake when nobody covered Aiken on that long screen. When you cant play physically how can you make a menthal mistake like that? The Jets spent all game trying to find some mix out there and it never seemed to work. You saw tonight why the team signed Ty Law. They do not trust Lowery in a big spot yet. I cant blame them either as Lowery just got beaten on all night long, but Law stinks too. Hank Poteat is probably the 2nd best corner on the team right now. All our fans want to make excuses for the defense, but its just not that good. Its ok, but its far from great. There is a reason why statistically we give up so many points to teams that dont score.

The Jets need to fix their defense by rushing the QB. At least make Bryan Thomas try to cover Ben Watson and let Calvin Pace rush the QB. Other than 1 lousy playcall by Belichick early on he completely outcoached our defensive staff. He made watson take Pace out of the game. He made Faulk take Bowens/Barton out of the game leaving the field wide open for Cassel to run. He new he could do it too because the Jets safeties were all way deep in coverage giving help to cover an area that the QB cant hit. That pissed me off so much. Moss was open two times deep and Cassel was nowhere near him. Not even in the same zip code the balls were so bad. He does that all the time, yet we kept running our safeties over there and they just killed us in the middle and underneath.

Im as excited as anyone about the game. Going into the game I thought we would lose. When they made it 24-20 I thought we would lose. When they tied it once I thought we would lose. When they tied it a second time I thought they would lose. The fact that we won is awesome, but there was so much bad to take out of this game defensively and from the coaching its unreal. When teams decide to just go to the air against our team the only way the opponent is stopped is when they stop themselves and we seem to coach into that philosophy. If the league didnt already know it they just learned tonight how to beat up on the Jets. We will have big problems matching up against good teams if they dont fix this.

Thought the same thing...

Just put Revis on Moss and and tighten up the underneath stuff with the safeties. Mangini was so afraid of the quick strike score, but I've yet to see much from Cassell to think he could hit it..

I think a lot of it is coaching personally.

I do almost wish we went after hall to cover #2's and #3's, even as bad as he can be on the field and off it..

Excellent analysis.

Last night the Pats gave the rest of the league a blueprint to beat us: run a hurry up, no huddle offense and spread the defense out. We were forced to play mostly nickel and dime packages on defense, couldn't get any pressure on the QB rushing only 3 or 4 players, and the secondary was completely exposed given the amount of time the QB had in the pocket.

Our strength on defense has been Jenkins and Barton wreaking havoc in the middle, and the Pats game plan neutralized this strength for much of the game. Our LB's and Lowery are a complete liability in coverage and we get very little pressure on the QB if we don't blitz.

The offense was very good for much of the game. Keller is a star in the making and Cotchery showed he can be a play maker when called upon. This was Favre's best game as a Jet by far; mistake free, clutch in key spots, and ran a fairly fluid offense. The ground game was solid and we should have stuck with it more often.

Overall, it was a gutsy performance and we pulled out a huge win in a game we usually lose. If the Jets can build on this game and find a solution against the Pats offensive strategy which other teams will undoubtedly try to use against us again, we can make a run and go deep into the playoffs. Our fate is in our hands...let's see what this team is made of and hopefully we can finish the season strong.

Do the Denver Broncos absolutely scare the **** out of anyone else? That offense is literally designed to beat this team!

We should have a field day on offense but I see us having serious issues on defense.

Not really. Denver goes deeper than what we saw last night andt never does as well away from home. Plus their defense is the worst thing going in the NFL. If the Jets bring their A game they could score 50+ on Denver with no issues.

When NE too it's second timeout in the 4th on our goal line drive I was yelling for 5 minutes. Who took the ****ing time out? Which team called the time out? Why would the jets call a time out here? Was is the jets who wasted a time out here? These guys are talking about useless **** for the last five minutes. Why can't they tell me who took the time out here? They waited until play resumed after talking for five minutes before even saying there was a timeout called and that NE called it. That just seems like the basics to me. Someone calls a timeout, you say "And a Time out by NE this is there second time out and they have one remaining" You don't talk about BS for 5 minutes leave it up to the drunk football fans to figure out what is going on and then guess as to who took the timeout. The whole production of the game just annoyed the **** out of me. I hate the Nfl network.

Excellent post Jason.

Favre saved our axses. Thank you Brett.

Keller was impressive. That dropped TD didn't phase the rookie. He just picked himself up and made several clutch catches. He's going to be a real special player.

The OL were warriors. They took it to the Pats. They had their ups and downs, but hung in there and played tough the whole game.

Our secondary play is killing the Jets. The D recorded just 3 sacks. But more importantly, where was the pressure pressure pressure? Jets have too much talent on D to give up all of that lead...twice. The end of the 2nd and 4th Qs was really mind puzzling. Sutton must go. He's simply not up to being a DC.

I'm not going to throw more fuel into the Mangini fires. I'll wait til the year is over to have my say. He is a young HC, and needs to learn from these games and adjust better.

So for now...I'll just smile and hug those 5 wins out of the last 6 games, and enjoy the fact that the Jets have sole control of the AFCE. We are right in the thick of the AFC race, having a legitimate shot at being a 2nd seed with a playoff bye. Everything is still possible for this team to accomplish. With the exceptions of the Titans and the Giants, the remaining good teams are having problems playing with any consistency.

Jets are 7-3...and I'm happy.

IMO, the players overcame the coach's ineptitude and got the W. Mangini's performance was very poor. The TD's late in the 2nd and 4th quarters should NEVER haver happened. In the second, we stop them on 4th down and take over, and everyone stands around while we take a delay of game penalty instead of taking the timeout. The conservative play calling causes us to punt, and the idiotic prevent defense allows a TD. The time out with 8 seconds was also stupid. It allowed the Pats to get everything laid out for the final play, which was a 4th down. Contrast that with Belicheat, who called his time outs before our 4th quarter TD to preserve the clock. Pull this mindless crap in the playoffs, and we will get a quick vacation.
