JMJ
We have been screaming this for 2 years now and now a national stage got to see it: How freaking explosive is Leon Washington?!?! How irresponsible is it to only give him 7 touches of the football all game long? He is the only player on our team who is a threat to take it to the house no matter where he touches the football and he now has 4 TDs on only 81 offensive touches this season (and he has a 5th on special teams where he leads all return men with at least double digit returns in kick return average with 29.6 yards per return, and he is 3rd in punt return average for all return men with at least double digit returns with a 12.9 average). Get Leon Washington the damn football! Use him like the Eagles do Westbrook, or the Saints do Reggie Bush. I don't care how you use him but *****ing use him! Boozer76
The thing alot of you seemingly don't realize is for the majority of our offensive futility in the 3rd and 4th quarter we were running a slurry of plays designed to go to Leon, and they didn't work at all. It wasn't until we went back to handing Jones the ball that we got back on track and won the game. Leon is explosive as hell, but trying to force the ball into him is not the answer. I do like the idea of lining him up in the slot, especially with Jones in at tailback.

Booz do not agree, favre missed a wide open Leon, on 3rd down, he pulled the ball down and ran, also look at replay on his TD pass, that is all Leon. leon hardly touched the ball, he is better than golden bush IMO

What game did you watch? Leon only had 7 touches all game long and one of them was in overtime. That leaves 6 touches in regulation. 2 of them came on the opening drive and one of them was an all-Leon TD. He also had a huge 3rd down conversion reception in the second half. That leaves three other touches total all game long. Just how were we "forcing the ball to him" or "running a slurry of plays to him that weren't working at all?" Is there an option here to nominate a worst post of the week? Exhibit A is quoted above ...

SMC
Leon is the Jets most dynamic player and, as JMJ said, he needs more touches. Hate to defend Mangini in this, but I think its easier said than done to give him more touches in a game. They mentioned last night that Thomas Jones has been tackled for a loss the least amount of times than any RB in the NFL. So there's an obvious tendancy to put him in there more often because you're pretty much going to do no worse than no gain, and probably are going to get at least 3.5 yards. Thomas Jones was running the ball pretty well last night and he wasn't gassed, so I could see why Mangini would stick with him. So when you have a RB like that, its hard to switch him out for the Homerun hitter, swing or miss. That said, I think that Leon should be in on more pass and running plays. CTM
That's what you call dedication. Character I'd call it.. When you start a thread I feel like it's an obligation to respond to people commenting in it. I hate when somebody starts a thread with lots of words and stuff and then doesn't even respond to anyone commenting. Seriously, I don't know if people who do that think the profound nugget of wisdom they just dropped on us is all that's required, but I think a decent person takes the time to interact with those that took the time to read and comment on their musings. DoubleDown
Leon is an explosive weapon on offense, but his luster wears off the more touches he gets. He's a change of pace player, not someone you design the bulk of your game plan around. I think the Jets are using him correctly as a spark while TJ gets most of the workload. I would love to see us run some two RB sets which would keep the defense off balance and allow Leon to play in the slot and split out wide. Leon would be used much more often on offense if he wasn't such a liability in pass protection.

TJ can also catch the football. Defenses wouldnt be able to blitz in a situation like that.

124
You can't get much better than our duo and how they're playing right now. Jones leads the AFC in rushing, before last nights game, and Leon is 2nd or 3rd best return man in the league and brings some explosivness to the offense. Sperm Edwards
He is the same size as Barry Sanders was! He is the home run hitter!!!! Consider: 1) Leon is not Barry Sanders. 1) Leon doesn't get to face too many opponents where both DT's are under 290 lbs. 2) Barry used to lead the league in carries for lost-yardage almost every year. We didn't watch every Detroit game back then; all we saw were ESPN highlights showing the 40-60 yard gains. 4) Again, Leon is not Barry Sanders. Drew Brees is 6'0" tall. That doesn't mean you rationalize going after midget QB's like that because Drew Brees is short for a QB. He's that good because he's that good at any size. Leon gets stuffed plenty. The problem is that our power-back doesn't exactly push the pile himself.
