Epic.

Last night's game rivals the Monday Night Miracle; if not exceeding it; as the Jet's greatest regular season game I've ever witnessed. Could there have been anything else added to it? Tightrope catches along the sidelines, Jerricho's unbelievable, David Tyree-like play, Leon's explosiveness, two high-octane offenses, and last second heroics; this game had everything that could be asked for.

It also fulfilled the characteristic that must be in place to become an epic game for Jets fans: We get to celebrate AND complain at the same time! It's amazing!

From my observations, I look at things this way:

1) We didn't play the best game on defense, in fact we were quite awful at times. We didn't really cause any turnovers, seeing as the fumble by Watson in the 3rd was more or less a giveaway than a takeway, and we just couldn't get any pressure on Cassell. Clearly, this was due to NE's solid offensive line.

2) The coaching was adequate, but left a lot to be desired. We tended to rush only 3, especially with the lead, and I think this was due to the lack of pressure issue I mentioned above. If we aren't getting pressure with 4 or 5 rushers, I guess Mangini figured he'd drop back and hope the secondary would make a play. That was simply too much to ask.

3) The good news is that good teams find ways to win. It's cliche and been said already, but the game simply came down to Brett Favre's shoulders. He is the emotional leader on this team (he jumped in jubilation during Leon's KR and was brought nearly to tears in the press conference). He showed us that, when the defense has an off-night, he can carry us when we need it. That's a comforting feeling.

Yes, we could have played better. But the Patriots ARE a good team too coming off an 18-1 season, and we got the job done on the road. The defense has played so well all season long, and its hard to fault them for a bad game against the likes of Moss and Welker.

When one major aspect of the game fails us, we're a team that's strong enough to overcome. That's not something many teams in the NFL can claim. In fact, I think that only the Steelers, Giants, and Titans can claim that right now. The Titans are up next. Enjoy moving to 10-0 this weekend, Tennessee. It comes to an end 9 days from now.
