Larz
I saw this nugget on ESPN 5. It will be difficult for the Jets to oust Jay Feely. Mangini has said injured kicker Mike Nugent will return to the job once healthy. Nugent traveled to New England and was a game-time decision, indicating he's close to returning. But Feely has been sensational. He kicked the winning field goal in Gillette Stadium, four nights after he tied a franchise record with a 55-yard field goal against the St. Louis Rams. Feely kicked a last-second field goal to send their Oct. 19 game into overtime against the Oakland Raiders. so if you are the HC of the NYJ, what do you do when nugent is healthy ? You put Nugent back in. You dont lose your spot because of injury. If feely is on fire you ride it out, if that means til the end of the year then thats what it is. However, Next year its nugents spot again.
war ensemble
Start Feely until he lays an egg. He gained the spot, it's his to lose now.

nyjfan
I haven't seen a lot of Nugent but I do remember him MISSING a 20 yard game tying FG in the preseason so either way I am nervous no matter who goes out there to kick.
*62
I'm sorry. Nugent has been rather a bust. NUgent might be the better tackler, but then again he needs to be.
Klecko73isGod
Start Feely until he lays an egg. He gained the spot, it's his to lose now. That's the answer right there. Nugent has hardly been a bust. Only four kickers in the league made more FGs than Nuge last year and he was 9th in the league in TB average for kickers with at least 50 kickoffs. J.E.T.S. JETS JETS JETS
You got to keep feeley the way he has been kicking and he had a stronger leg just put nugent on ir don't waste a roster spot on kicker.

Exactly. I don't have confidence in either one, but Feely is getting it done now and at least has deeper kickoffs.
Bleedin Green
Can somebody please tell me where this is coming from that Feely is on a "hot streak"? He shanked another 30-something yarder in Buffalo less than 2 weeks ago that helped make it a much closer game than it needed to be. Granted, he had a good game against St. Louis but that was with absolutely no pressure on him and still was only one game. He's had a lot more bad games than that. And I'm sorry, but I'm hardly blown away by last nights performance of making 2 kicks of 22 and 34 yards. If he had missed either one of them, he'd be out on his ass today. When someone misses as many "easy" kicks as he has this season, that's not so easy to forget. I didn't trust him lining up from 34 yesterday and I sure as hell don't want to have to put our faith in this guy once the weather gets cold and we need a clutch, high pressure kick from him. Nothing I've seen this year or in his career tells me he's capable of making those kicks.
Kleckineau
Nuge is garbage. Time to empty the trash. Feeley may not be great but he is better. Second rnd pick by the Hermaphrodite. <-------------Him...ugh
CoachTsurfing
Start Feely until he lays an egg. He gained the spot, it's his to lose now. exactly. I don't want to go into a playoff game and miss the game winner because we put in nuge because you can't lose your spot due to injury. keep the hot leg going. no sense to cut nugent either because we have the roster spot. it's not like we're going to sign anyone. unless the raiders cut mcfadden. kelticwizard
Nuge was not that good his first year, then started getting more and more consistent until this year, when he hit a mild slump until getting injured. In his replacement role, Feely missed several easy kicks but has come on of late, hitting several long ones. I don't want to give up Nugent, because he really was getting extremely consistent, and his kickoffs were gradually improving. But Feely is too hot right now to cut. If Feely continues hot, then perhaps he has turned the corner and we might make him our regular. But until that time, I want Nugent on our team so we have the option of returning to a consistent kicker if Feely returns to his normal form. I've heard that cliche forever in sports. Look, if someone who is better comes in then see ya. Wally Pipp thought he wasn't going to lose his job to injury too. KudosForND
a part of me I still think nuge can be great but we gotta keep feely. Hes been pretty good but the think that made me choose him wass on kickoffs he is like always down at the tackle. I love that

joewilly
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have to agree here. I'm also glad westhoff is back as he's the only coach I have confidence in. If he brings nuge back then fine. If he keeps feely, fine I kinda think that as the team improves & gels, so does feely. he was solid against st louis & made a clutch kick in overtime. he deserves to remain til he proves otherwise

jetophile
Can I kick both of them in their asses? It's up, it's good! I didn't hate it when we took Nugent so high. I saw it as ballsy at the time. Maybe I was in in a coma or something. Two years before, but I actually was. Hehe.

Gee I miss those days. Give Nuge a coma. Maybe he will kick better

Nothing is guaranteed on this team and I'm pretty sure Mangini will tell you that. Why should Feely get benched? Because he hit a 55 yarder? or because he hit the game winning FG? You choose.
