Schotty excellent today...

Schotty called a brilliant first half today setting the tone for the game. He called screens when they blitzed, and created deception in the running game. I am skeptical of the CS at times, but the Jets gameplan was great and they executed it to near perfection.

I totally agree

he balanced staying away from the titans strengths with not abandoning the running game totally

the screens, draws and quick hitters were exactly what I was hoping for

the titans wore down, and the JETS owned the second half

well done Brian !

The first TD to jones was a perfect call. A team that thinks they will be dicing through the jets O-line like nothing, the jets let them all slide by and go right over their heads. Beautiful call.

I don't know how "brilliant" his first half was. The first drive was great (it better be; he had 10 days to plan it). After that we scored a total of 3 points for the remaining 24 minutes of the first half, even with our defense giving us the ball back by forcing punts a minute or two later on just about every Titans drive.

Then in the 2nd half, another FG. Then a TD after taking over on Ten's 35. Then Leon took one 61 yards (that will make any OC look smart)...

Truth is we got damn lucky in the first half with all the Titans dropped passes. Could have easily been losing at halftime. Even the Leon fumble only erased a ~40-yd FG attempt. It was 3rd & 15, not 1st & 10. Getting 3 (6 if Leon doesn't fumble & Feely doesn't miss the FG attempt) on all those possessions made many of us get that "we're letting them off the hook" feeling by not making Tennessee pay for their ineffective 1st-half offense.

I'm damn happy with the win & knocking off a 10-0 team in their house to boot. But Schotty hardly called a "brilliant" first half. I was more impressed with the pair of 7-minute scoring drives in the 2nd half that protected the lead.

That was a beautiful execution of the screen. Sounds like he had them off balance the whole game.

Me too. This looked like a very different second-half Jets offense than we've seen much of this year. They were moving the ball and still running their offense rather than a lot of the conservative crap they've been running all year when they've had big leads.

You have to wear down a defense like the Titans. The playcalling in the first half was designed to chip away at the Titans while taking minimal hits ourselves. Then the second half you saw the benefits of that plan in longer drives and Leon busting a long run, that doesn't happen unless you've worn the defense down, and you don't wear them down unless you've planned to do so.

If you have issue, take it with Sutton and the crappy D in the second half. Instead of sticking to what got us to that dominant position, we played off and decided we'd just let the Titans score for free. If we didn't have Favre, we'd have lost due to momentum shifts (not many QBs can operate in that type of environment). In addition, this resulted in a scare for Jenkins, as we just kept him on the field for long extended times with quick succession plays.

I will always voice my desire to see pressure in that situation. The way every good defense in this league plays. I don't think I've ever seen a successful defense that refuse to attack a QB in obvious passing situations. I know Mangini thinks it's a good idea to have the other team waste 2 minutes to score a TD, but I personally think we are better off keeping the ball ourselves and running out the clock that way instead. We did hold the ball for something like 41 minutes. I'm sure we could have wasted more if the opposing team just gave us the ball back instead of scoring.

Although I admit we got a bit better at it this week. Instead of giving them 15 yard chunks, we seemed to limit them to about half of that. This way they need to at least run 2 plays for a first down, and if they clock it, they are in serious danger of not converting. Rather than going right down the field in 4-5 plays and scoring in 50 seconds.

Actually crappy is way too harsh a word. While giving up 10 points to a Kerry Collins led offense in the 4th quarter isn't anything worthy of praise, maybe uninspiring is a better word for it than crappy.

This is to imply that the Titans' receivers actually have talent. Exactly how many "Justins" can one have running patterns? These looked like the Titans receivers that I remember.

Sorry Sperm...fair enough point but you're giving too much credit to mediocrity.

Schotty and Mangini are young coaches. Just like the young players, they need time to learn and mature too. The thorough dismantling of the Titans is a good sign that both players and coaches are doing just that.

Good point. I was really down on them after the Raiders fiasco and KC near fiasco. But they have been pretty solid ever since. Schotty seems to have figured out that the pass can set up the run. Even Sutton had good schemes against the Titans. They were helped by dropped passes, but the Titans receivers are not exactly the Patriots.

There is hope for this coaching staff. Now just beat all of these remaining teams that they should beat.
