Brett Favre--Immune to Momentum Shifts

I'm a long time Jets fan, as many of you are. I'm a bit older than some of you, although to others of you I'm relatively young. But for those of us that have followed this team since at least the Kotite era, and obviously from before (I've been around since the Coslet era myself) you know about the "Same 'ol Jets" and the typical Jet blueprint.

Win the game for 3 quarters, then through a series of momentum shifts lose it at the end.

But, for some reason, Brett Favre isn't interested in that. It started against the Cardinals. Up 35-0, it was following typical Jet blueprint. Then, we quickly give up 3 TDs, uh oh, only a 2 TD lead. This is where the Jets go 3 and out, or turn the ball over. What does Favre do? Why, he goes and gets a TD. And then another. The Cardinals had no chance.

Against KC, same deal. We have a lead and blow it. Favre takes us right down the field and wins the game.

Against the Pats, again, we have a big lead and just blow it. Favre takes it down the field for the win in OT.

In each of those situations, the coaches absolutely blew it, and tried to lose the game. But Favre hoisted the team on his back, ignored crushing momentum, ignoring the crushing weight of history, and just took care of business.

This guy is good. Scary good. I love Jenkins, but Favre is the guy that is making the Jets run. He is the heart and soul of this team. He is the dam that just won't break.

I never truly understood how great Favre was until this year. I never could understand why the media loved him so much. I understand it now. This guy is special, and thanks to him, the Jets are now a special bunch too.

As a long time Jets fan I'm a cynical guy. I expect the other shoe to drop. I'm like a jilted lover, someone that has been dumped one too many times. But, and some part of me might still regret this, I'm going to let that go and just believe in Favre. Maybe we won't win the SB this year, but hey, at least I can sit back and enjoy the ride. Thank you Favre, for making it feel great to be a Jets fan again.

Great thread. Brett Favre is special and getting to see him play every week gives you a first hand look of how great he still is at 39.

I got a call from my brother after the game yesterday and he said that everybody who is a football fan knew that Brett Favre was a great QB... but when you actually get to see him play every play week in and week out you realize how great he is. I can see why GB fans have serious man love for Mr. Favre... because as a Jets fan I love me some Brett F'n Favre.

What I love is that every stat geek in the country loves to tear down Favre any chance they get, but I've yet to hear a good explanation out of them as to why the guy has had 1 losing season in almost 20 years.

good post..

The only thing Favre isn't doing this year that he was last year is throwing the

deep ball. With Greg Jennings in GB, he hooked up with some insane 40,50,60 and

80+ yard touchdowns throughout the year....if we had that..man then you'd

REALLY see somethin lol

I think the possibility still exists (Stuckey possibly or even Keller with a linebacker mismatch). But they haven't needed to play that way.

Nice to know they could air it out if needed though. This team can beat you a lot of ways.

We don't really have the receivers to consistently get open downfield. These WRs are all about slants and YAC.

One of the most overrated aspects of Favres game has been the deep ball. Yes he has a huge arm and although he's far from a bad downfield thrower he's never been the great one in that regard that people make him out to be.

He makes up for it by being one of the best short passing game QB's of all time.
