DAVIE - Dolphins leading receiver Greg Camarillo suffered a season-ending left knee injury during Sunday's loss to the Patriots.

"He's done," coach Tony Sparano said.

Davone Bess, Brandon London and Ernest Wilford will compete to replace Camarillo.

Bess, who started his first game as part of a three-receiver set Sunday, caught a career-high five passes for 87 yards. It was the most receiving yards by a Dolphins rookie since December 2001, when Chris Chambers collected seven catches for 124 yards against the Patriots.

Expect Bess, an undrafted rookie free agent, and London to compete for the starting spot opposite Ted Ginn Jr.

Bess' 24 receptions, which has him tied with tight end David Martin for third most on the team, gives him the experience edge. London, a second-year receiver acquired off waivers in September, has only caught one pass this season, but he plays ahead of Wilford, the Dolphins' expensive offseason free-agent addition.

Camarillo, one of the Dolphins' most consistent players, left the stadium on crutches and with his left knee in a brace. Last Thursday, the Dolphins rewarded the former practice squad member with a contract extension.

Camarillo, who leads the Dolphins with 55 catches and 613 yards, will receive approximately $6 million over three years that will keep him here through 2011, according to a source. Camarillo had been earning the league minimum $445,000.

Camarillo, a walk-on punter at Stanford, received his first opportunity with the San Diego Chargers and their former offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who later brought Camarillo with him when he was hired to coach the Dolphins last season.

Although Camarillo made his mark last season when he caught a game-winning 64-yard touchdown pass against the Ravens to prevent the Dolphins from the first 0-16 season in NFL history, he was still concerned that he would be cut this summer.
