Respect for Mangini +10

At least he's honest!

McManus followed up by asking about anything he might've wanted to do differently in the game. Mangini offered two examples.

"I think on the reverse play with Brad [smith], I probably would've changed the ballhandling and made it an underhanded pitch instead of an overhanded pitch. That would've softened it a little bit," he said. "I didn't feel like the conditions made that exchange impossible. I thought it was very reasonable. But I think [a softened pitch] could've helped that.

"On the fourth-and-1 play, I liked the concept of going with big people to hard-sell the play action. We really felt like the safety would suck up and we had a chance for a big play to Chris [baker]," Mangini said. When the safety didn't come up, he said there was a problem with the design for the outlet on that play.

"We had an outlet. I just don't think it was as good as it could've possibly been so Brett had a better opportunity to get a first down. That part of the play didn't work. So those were two things."

Chris ****ing Baker?!?!?

Exactly. A critical 4th down play, and the only receiving option is slow a$$ Baker??? Yeah, it may have fooled people for a moment, but you have plenty of time to recover with Baker. Especially with a 39 year old QB, who, of course, can't run anymore. Way to give yourself some options, guys.

Really, really dumb call.

The biggest play he made all year was parking in the team president's parking spot during training camp.

Raiders game, Broncos game.

When is this coaching staff going to realize that if they want to have a "big play" to a TE, that play should only be called for Keller?

sorry, just not a good coach. There is obviously some talent there. He serves a purpose but not as head football coach, no way.

I would much rather have a retread whose been around, he could take this talented group there. A Vermeil, a Coughlin, Reeves, Billick,Fassell... whoever........This is the most talented Jet team I've seen in a long time and every week, win or lose, the coaching is questionable.

Im 36 and have been rooting for the Jets since R.Todd was QB and I think Mangini is one of the best coaches we ever had. He has some learning to do but I think he has a bright future with the Jets. The Jets have had enough "retread" coaches for one lifetime as far as Im concerned

Mangini is nothing special and he's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

He's better than Joe Walton and Herm. I'll give you that.

Being a better NFL coach than the likes of Rich Kotite, Joe Walton, Bruce Coslet, Pete Carroll, Al Groh, and Herm Edwards is nothing to hang your hat on... and that's if you concede he's better than all listed, which is certainly debateable.

its not debatable in my opinion. Groh rode the coat tails of the talent Parcells assembled to a 9-7 record. I agree that being better than those coaches is nothing to hang your hat on, but Its waht we have in our history to compare Mangini to. Mangini has a 22-22 record with the Jets right now which is 3rd best all time winning % behind Parcells and Groh. I cant believe any Jets fan that has watched the Jets as long as I have would be in a hurry to see Mangini replaced. Lets also not lose sight of the fact that overall the Jets have drafted/traded very well under the Mangini regime, and only now is the team finally suited with the personel to play the 3-4 defense Mangini has wanted since coming here. Yes, they have missed on some trades but not in a way that has hamstrung us with the salary cap. Im also excited about the future of Brad Ratliff , who I think is going to be a nice surprise for a lot of Jets fans when Favre leaves. Some of the Jet fans on these boards are too quick to jump the gun on advocating for firings, FA aquisitions, trades etc..., and I think getting rid of Mangini is a prime example. I mean c'mon guys, we're 8-4 and in 1st place in our division, and people are talking about replacing our coach?! f'n ridiculous. Guess what? whatever coach we would bring in to replace Mangini would be second guessed just as much. Im sure of it

Agree with you but there is still a lot of football to be played. Losing 5 straight and going 8-8 would change opinions quickly, as would winning 4 and getting the number 2 seed. Lets hope this team can win 2 on the west coast, which hasn't been easy in the NFL this year. I like our chances against Buffalo and Miami.

please don't confuse my opinion of Tangini, who i feel is an awesome scouting/drafting team. Whatever hand Mangini had in the rebuilding of this team from last year to now is wonderful. And if he played a significant role in grabbing the guys like Revis,Mangold,Lowery, giving Cotch the nod,Ratliff,Pace,Jenkins...etc. He deserves a spot in the Front office.

But Eric Mangini, the football coach and his coordinators are bottom shelf in the NFL.

If Groh rode Parcells coattails, what did Mangini do? He is a typical Jet HC, in line with the rest (besides Parcells).

Honestly, would you rather have Mangini or Holmgren right now? or Shannahan or Dungy. Who would get the most out of these great players Tangini grabbed. Do you, in your heart of hearts think it's Mangini.

I don't mean fire him now, true, there is noone waiting for us and we are in first, but...........Mangini as a coach- C- .

I'd rather make a run at Paterno. LOL

Every Giants fan thought Coughlin was a friggin moron until the last 4 games of the season last year. He was on the cusp of getting booted out the door and now he is a genius. I have friends that are huge Giants fans and still hate the guy though. A few wins or losses at crunch time will also be the basis of the overall opinion of Mangini this year.
