Jets | Ellis arrested for marijuana possession

Fri, 05 Dec 2008 04:37:25 -0800

The Associated Press reports New York Jets DE Shaun Ellis was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, speeding and driving without insurance after getting pulled over Saturday, Nov. 29. Ellis was stopped in Hanover, N.J., according to the Daily Record of Morris County. This is believed to be Ellis' first offense, which means he will not be suspended but will be enrolled in the league's substance abuse program. Ellis will still play in the team's Week 14 game.

This happened last Saturday. If he wasn't suspended for the Broncos game, I don't know how he could be suspended for any other game by the Jets because the NFL has no precedent for suspending a player under similar circumstances.

I'd just like to know the circumstances of the cop finding the stuff in his car. I'm sure that when he got pulled over, Ellis didn't just have the "glassine bag" (remember that term, lol) on the passenger seat.

Either Ellis was smoking it at 8:30 in the morning and the cop smelled it, or the cop conducted a search of his car merely because of his failure to have a registration card and insurance. Which seems excessive.

You don't think that a search of a car because some paperwork was not in order seems a little much?

No

He didn't have the registration, he couldn't prove it was his car.

My youngest son is 25, he has never been arrested. His car has been searched 4 times in 6 weeks.

Whats the catch?

No front license plate?

Loud exhaust?

Did he Pimp his ride?

An officer needs to reasons to search both of which can be derived from the previous experience in the field...

For example if you have no front plate and an exhaust... chances are your car will get searched if your young because most young kids who get caught with pot fall into the no plate loud car category.

Not excessive. It's the law and not having registration or insurance IS probable cause.

It might be as simple as a similar car that was reported stolen. But it DOES seem rather excessive. Same cop? Same PD ? If it's either I'd be asking PLENTY of questions. They have to have a reason for pulling him over.
