Texas' McCoy 'not going anywhere,' QB tells newspaper

ESPN.com news services

Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy will return for his senior season, the Austin American-Statesman reported Monday on its Web site.

"I'm not going anywhere," McCoy told the newspaper.

McCoy, who had previously said he would file paperwork to receive feedback from an NFL advisory committee about his draft prospects, is hungry for a national title after the Longhorns fell just short of a berth in the BCS Championship Game, the Statesman reported.

"I'm coming back because we have a solid coaching staff," McCoy said. "And I'm coming back because I feel like I can develop the young receivers we have."

The Longhorns (11-1), who will face Ohio State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 5, finished the regular season ranked third in the BCS standings behind Oklahoma and Florida.

McCoy, a redshirt junior, said Monday he had also decided against testing the waters for the draft or seeking an evaluation for his coaches at UT from the NFL.

McCoy set team records this season with 3,445 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. The Heisman Trophy contender also led the team in rushing with 576 yards.

McCoy had hinted before that he would stay for a fourth year at Texas.

"I've been blessed to be able to play here," McCoy told The Sporting News in October. "Not very many people get to [start] here for four years, so what an opportunity."

I suprised every top ranked draft pick isnt staying in school... the Lions are picking 1st... I would be terrified!

If Colt McCoy was actually being considered to be a 1st round pick I think he would actually jump at the chance to go.

Poor Matthew Stafford, like JaMarcus Russell, will be ruined.

Really? I think it's idiotic in my honest opinion.

If he is not projected to be a high first round pick, I would have to disagree. He does run the risk of injury, but he is also a smallish QB (210 lbs) that primarily operates out of the spread. The only QB I have read being projected for the first round is Stafford. Everyone else is in that gray area of 1st to 3rd round.

Mccoy is a 1st rd pick

"Stay in School Lions Kill"

I do not think so. Granted, I am an idiot, but none the less.

As I said above, he is small (210 lbs) and operates out of the spread. Not exactly a recipe for being drafted high.

he was never a playa in college though...

split time with henson

Revisionist history.

Llyodd Carr in an effort to keep Henson in Ann Arbor gave him playing time.

Brady played far better then Henson, but still lost time to Henson until Carr finally took his head out of his a$$.

Colt Brennan was a 'playa' in college. Nice world you old fart. He ran a similar offense with a bunch of pretty numbers. Is the same height as Colt and about 10 pounds lighter. He was drafted at 186. I am not saying Colt will slide that far, but he is not a lock for the first like Stafford.
