The holidays are a giant pain in the ass.

Did some X-Mas shopping today and I must say that the stores, although crowded, certainly weren't as bad as they were last year at this time. People are not having a good go of it out there in reality. Sux.

Anyway, I had my initial diagnosis confirmed today. It's an awful disease and it effects my wallet. Whenever I go shopping for gifts I always end up getting a little something for myself. So today I bought myself a new sweater and a new pair of boots. Trust me, I do not need another frickin' sweater or another pair of boots.

i like the holidays....i likr going out and buying gifts for my kids. i like decorating the house and the tree. i like the look on my kids face on christmas morning when he sees all the gifts under the tree, and how excited he gets when we're opening them. i like hanging out with my family and getting drunk and eating all the good food, and cookies, and pastries. seriously you guys are a bunch of bring-me-downs.

Been there already...:(

Me, too.

Two years ago our family decided not to exchange presents, not even for the nieces/nephews. It probably was because we were all in different states so it was a huge pain and expense to not only buy all the gifts but then to mail them. So we each do our own thing; it will be a quiet holiday here in Texas as we are not traveling back east to see the parents/siblings.

Damn, come on people, where's your spirit? There's people less fortunate than you with more spirit. Want to feel better, go to a children's hospital or a veteran's hospital...it's not all about the money folks, it's what's in your heart.

And what if you don't have a heart?

I mean, figuratively, at least.

Who said I was referring to you...it was the third party person(s) that my reply was directed at...

Haha, I'm just stirring the pot.

I'm sometimes happy, just never satisfied. I don't think I ever will be, but whatever. I don't care much about money--I'd rather use that to help give others an equal opportunity to succeed. That's why I never get in the "Christmas" giving mood--you only give away trifles in return for trifles, when there are others going through a lot worse that could use what you just wasted. (Not the actual gift, but the money or effort used to procure the gift.) And, other than child's excitement, the vast majority of people are fooling themselves and/or the giver into believing they're excited, when the gift does nothing for them. I suppose they might be grateful for the effort that went into the gift, but some have no problem getting that money because they are rich through being manipulative geniuses or the like. If you see what I'm getting at/if I'm making any sense here.

Whatever, I'll let others be happy. I just can't find that genuine joy in anything--maybe that'll change though. I'm grateful for where I am in life and how I've been brought up and live a relatively jovial life; feeling this way doesn't necessarily make me gloomy or a "Scrooge". Although I'll admit I'm incredibly blunt and honest with people, so while being quiet, I'll be assertive with stuff like that. Which might piss people off, but I feel it's due to their own weaknesses that it occurred. But I'll admit being wrong.

And now I'm off on another random musing...

I have an 8 year old and a 3 year old, so I am in the santa zone big time this year :D

the 8 year old is getting a nintendo DS

are they cool ?

Very cool for kids that age. I never see them not on that or their Wii--which isn't necessarily a good thing, but your kid will enjoy it. Well, most do anyway. Maybe he's different and likes to read--get him The Lord of the Rings--I read that around his age. \:D/

funny you mention that, the 8 year old, Jenny, is getting the hobbit when she turns 9. I read somewhere tolkien said the book was right for 9 year olds, and LOTR is more for say a 12 year old

she is a good reader, doesn't need to be nagged into reading

Good for her--I was the same way. I read The Hobbit and The LOTR when I was 8, good books.

By the way--I wouldn't look too much into the "suggested age" or anything similar for books...I didn't let that stop me with War and Peace. The universal opinion is you have to be above like 20 and have life experience to understand the book--f' that. LOL
