Chad Pennington stars in Jets' worst nighmare

Great article from the NYDailyNews on our upcoming game and the implications of the Pennington/Favre swap.

The Jets have put their fans through an awful lot since winning their only Super Bowl 40 years ago. They've teased them with two trips to the AFC title game, tortured them with a double-overtime playoff loss in Cleveland after holding a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, broken their hearts with December collapses that have cost playoff spots and humiliated them with two years of Rich Kotite.

But absolutely nothing would be as painful as the nightmare scenario the Jets are staring at in two weeks if they lose at home to Miami in a winner-take-all final game of the regular season: Chad Pennington beating Brett Favre, and the Dolphins winning the AFC East, knocking the Jets out of the playoffs.

I know there is a lot of competition, but that would qualify as the lowest moment in franchise history. Can you imagine Pennington coming back to the Meadowlands and beating Favre with the season on the line? It might take the Jets years to recover. If things go as anticipated, the winner of that game will win the division and the loser will miss the playoffs.

After trading for Favre, absolutely the right thing to do, the Jets cut Pennington rather than making an all-out effort to trade him, absolutely the wrong thing to do. They had less than 24 hours after the trade to clear $6 million in cap room to accommodate Favre's $12 million salary. Pennington's salary was $6 million, so letting him go opened up the space.

No team called the Jets about trading for Pennington knowing the Jets were in a cap bind...

But GM Mike Tannenbaum should have found another way to create the cap room and buy more time to shop Pennington and see if a market developed or another team suffered a quarterback injury.

It would have been uncomfortable to keep Pennington around when it was a Favre circus, but this is a business, and the Jets made a poor business decision. Tannenbaum didn't have a contingency trade set up for Pennington in the event he was able to get Favre.

He had value. I can't believe nobody would give up even a mid-round pick for a quarterback who has won in the playoffs. Why wouldn't the Vikings have wanted him? Or Ravens? Or even the Packers?

Nobody expected Pennington to do much with a Dolphins team that was 1-15 last year, but still, it's irresponsible to just hand another team in the division your starting quarterback. The Packers refused to trade Favre to the Vikings.

am i the only one who's not feelin' it that much? whats up with her boobs? does she have any?

Why do we care if YOU are feeling it? I didn't realize you felt things like that...

The Dol-fags will not beat us in The Meadowlands...just be sure you are hear after that game CJ...

BTW, nice how the refs blew that last call to give you guys an unearned win AGAIN.

Last time I checked, a delay of game call at the los is a dead play and the game continues, but it was the Dol-fags who were invloved, so it doesn't surprise me

I've shown up after 5 losses in a row, only a banning would prevent me from coming back to wish you congratulations.

As far as your conspiracy theories, blow em' out your... We earned yesterday's victory against a team that the Jets couldn't beat last week. Enjoy your LUCKY victory from yesterday and enjoy your Monday Senior.

It's so funny that dolphag fans think their team is good. They have no good players and have been beating mediocre teams by 3 points. They don't have one quality win all season.

Let me get this straight, Miami is tied at 9-5 for the division lead with your NY Jets, we are currently on a 7-1 win streak, our defense hasn't given up an offensive TD in 4 of our last 5 games, but you can't seem to understand why Miami fans think we have a good team? Meanwhile we are beating teams that the Jets couldn't, like San Fran, Oakland, San Diego etc... Maybe, now I'm just speculating, Miami fans think we have a good team because, we do.

Nah, that can't be it. Its pure speculation on your part

It's funny how all of the games against the WC teams were home games. Every last one of them. The Jets have to travel to play the WC teams 4 times. No big deal? Maybe, but we'll find out in two weeks, for sure.

Here's what I think, you have an average/good team that is playing fairly consistent against poor competition. We have an above average team that is playing inconsistently and generally up or down to it's level of competition..

There's almost no doubt in my mind that if both teams bring their A game, the Jets would win. But I think the likelihood of you guys bringing your A or B game is much greater then ours, and the likelihood of our team brining it's D or F game is much greater then yours. In short, our ceiling is higher but our floor is lower..

Those 7 wins are against garbage teams. Every one of them. Congratulations for barely winning games against an awful schedule. The dolphags are one of those teams that goes from 10 wins to 4 very quickly...

The scheduling seemed absurd this year with the East playing the West. The Jets made 4 West Coast trips and, even worse, Arizona drew 5 East Coast trips against teams with a combined 43-25-1 record.

Looking at it from a pre-draft standpoint, Miami is Chris Long and the Jets are Vernon Gholston.

We beat Denver in Denver... The Jets couldn't beat Denver in Giants Stadium. Just sayin'

By "at home", I meant at Miami. So no, you did not beat St. Louis "at home".

you didn't even beat Buffalo AT THEIR HOME...you had to do that in the confines of a snuggly dome while it was bitter cold outside...

face it, the Dol-Fags are luckier then they are good

WTF should we do about that then? I mean c'mon man, the NFL sets the schedules, not us. Should we just count it as a tie? No. The game was still a Buffalo crowd with their noise in a dome. Hell, you guys barely beat Buffalo in your house.

I guess luck, is the defense being so strong that they haven't given up a TD in 4 out of 5 games. For ****s sake man, give it up.
