It's fantasy football. I don't understand why people get surprised, the game is mostly luck. There is a lot more skill involved in poker, and there's a ton of luck involved in that game too. But at least in poker you have more control over what happens and can lower the variance by playing a lot of hands. In FFB, about all you can do is have a lot of leagues and try to draft different players in each, but in that case the chance of winning with all of them is pretty low.

I have 4 leagues, 3 in the championships and 1 just barely missed (if I just started one player over another I'd have gotten in, and I had 3 or 4 different players that I could have put in). I believe the top seed lost in every single one of them. In the one I'm playing for 3rd, I was the 2nd seed, so the top 2 seeds are both out. I was 2nd seed in 3 of the leagues and 4th in the other.

I've played fantasy football 4 years now. First time was 98, second was right after that in 99, then I didn't play again until last year, and now again this year. I don't have any intention of playing again next year. I'll try not to have another near decade gap this time I guess, but it's kind of boring. The only real reason to play is to get to know players and follow them for awhile more closely than you otherwise would.

I don't really understand people that play it for money. That's a lot of time to have money tied up with little power to do anything over it. At least when you're gambling on something else it'll be a week or so until you know. My roommate back in San Diego made his living off gambling. I think he still does it, but he got a real job too recently because he said it's not really something worth doing for a living.
