The Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon withdrew their offer to free-agent slugger Mark Teixeira and do not intend to continue negotiations with his agent, according to a source close to the negotiations.

Believed to have offered about $160 million over eight seasons, the Angels became the second team in recent days to declare the price on Teixeira to be too steep. The Boston Red Sox reached a similar decision Thursday night after meeting with Teixeira and agent Scott Boras. Team owner John Henry issued a statement that concluded,

That can be true.

When the Sox pulled out, they showed the 'believed' top bids by the teams on ESPN. Other then the Orioles, the Sox, Angels and Nats were all within about 5-15 million of each other. The Sox had the highest at 165-175 million. 24 hours later after Boston had left, they are speculating in Boston that Boras wanted $195 million.

Even big market teams have limits. 25 million per is a good chunk of a teams salary even when they are dropping $130-150 million per year.
