MSGold12
I owe you an apology man. You were right...Herm is a better coach then mangini. Dont get me wrong, I am not paying a compliment to herm here...he is still a total fraud and waste of time as an NFL HC. But he took less talented Jet teams then this one to the playoffs. This team, wiht 7 pro bowlers (not even counting Harris and Rhiodes who we all thought were shoe ins) is going to be home this post season...mainly because I have seen better coaching on Pop Warner sidelines then with mangina!!!!! herm still sucks...but he is better then the fat piece of sh*t we have coaching us now!!!!! 1 dol fan
I am in no way shape or form a supporter ofthosewho support the Jets but I think that NYJUNC is the best Jets fan alive. Mostly because he is a completely reasonable and smart person. He is often open to new ideas and does not fear agreeing with someone who has ideas that were not his originally. God Bles him and I hope he marrys a Dolphins fan and she makes sure to keep her kid on the good side of the East.
MSGold12
Wow. Herm would have taken this team to the playoffs. You're right, Hermy had a knack for lucking his way out of his own stupidity and taking advantage of it long enough to finagle a new contract. Mangini just thinks that he can close his eyes and click his heels and he will be in the SB.

Mangini just thinks that he can close his eyes and click his heels and he will be in the SB. Mangini thinks he's Bellicheck. But fact is Bellicheck wasnt Bellicheck until he won that first SB! He was considered to cerebral, too stoic, too non communicative. Then he won those SBs and suddenyl he was the model all HCs were suppossed to follow (at least in mangina's head). fact is BB is a strategic genius and mangini is not so trying to get away wiht BBs way of coaching BEFORE you actually win anything is a doomed strategy. He needs to be gone...NOW! It is simply inexcusable to lose the games he lost this year and the manner in whch they were lost. Its over...time to move on. Only this time csn we PLEASE get someone wiht a track record in the NFL. trying to find the next "genius" has NEVER worked for us be it Walton, Holtz, Coslet, carroll, Herm or Mangina. Exactly. Our two most successful coaches were Weeb-- came from the Colts, and Parcells-- who won two SB's with the Giants. Cowher would make three. Thanks Gold...I think. I hate chancging coaches every few years, I still feel Eric can be a good coach but I hate constantly changing. I want to give Eric another year unless we can get Cowher. I don't want to start over w/ the next flavor of the month hot assistant.

Becoming the Deadskins, changing coaches every other year, is not going to succeed. But if Mangini is coming back, he ahs to be confronted with his mistakes and asked what he will do to change things for the better. The offensive and defensive philosophies have to be addressed, and not in coachspeak generalities. Why this team doens't rush the passer or utilize it's running game enough is a complete mystery and unacceptable. Can anyone explain this defense? A passive 3-4(is that the idea?); it's not even a Cover 2, because even with all those guys back in a soft zone, receievers are as open as physically possible. it's like the Prevent for 4 quarters. And Schottenheimer and Sutton will be gone. They have to be. And Junc, as someone who also took you to task for Edwards/Mangini comparisons, I add my regrets as well. I was wrong, even if we all hope someday it will turn around. 2 wrongs don't make a right, but why do we get stuck with such bad coaching every regime spare Tuna? I agree, I think we'd see at least a new DC in here if Mangini stays. To clear things up, I have always defended the job Herm did here but I did think it was time for a change b/c he made the 1st move. If he was just fired I wouldn't have been for it but he left us. I thought mangini was a good choice and I still think he has the potential to be alot better than Herm though he haasn't proven it yet. I never said Herm was a great coahc but I think he's a good one and he did a good job here and we never choked away a playoff spot undre him or had a year as bad as '07(we had records as bad but that was w/ a million injuries, we were mostly healthy a year ago). In 2004 we choked, losing to a bad Rams team to end the season. Lets not pretend Herms teams were firing on all cylinders making the playoffs. 2002 was the only season, and we only won 9 games that year due to a pathetic start. 2001 we lost to the Bills in a PATHETIC effort mind you. Luckily, the Steelers backups were able to beat the Bills in 2004.

Luckily, the Steelers backups were able to beat the Bills in 2004. We went for a long FG in Ot that we wouldn't have went for if we knew Buf had won. We did have a clunker in '01 vs. Buf, in '02 at Chi but we didn't have the prolonged slump in December that we are seeing this year. We bounved back from the Buf game and won at oak for the 1st time since we were the Titans. We bounced back from the Chi loss and whipped the Pats and Pack the final 2 weeks. The Den loss would have had a similar effect on this team, we wouldn't have lost 3 of 4 to the caliber of teams we lost to. In '04 we lost 3 of 4 but 2 of the 3 were probably the 2 best teams in the NFL. Herms' teams were mentally tough, this team clearly is not.
