hoping4ASuperBowl
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Eric Mangini may be coaching his last game for the Jets on Sunday. The Jets need help to make the postseason after losing to Seneca Wallace and the Seahawks in Week 16. New York's front office reportedly met last week to discuss Mangini's future. One of the options discussed was offering Mangini a one-year extension, but it wasn't proposed and Schefter calls that "an ominous sign." Mangini is 23-24 as Jets head coach. Irish Jet
He's been saying that all week. Wouldn't look into it too much. It's common knowledge that right now Mangini should at least be under some pressure.
Maxman
Firing Mangini is funny. Everyone knew he was going to learn on the job. And that is what he was doing. They hired a 35 year old with one year of coordinator experience. The results are par for the course. If they do it and they don't have Cowher already lined up they are insane. Irish Jet
Who are they gonna hire? I still don't believe this.... If they are going to fire Mangini I don't think finiding a replacement will be a problem. There are some good HC candidates this season that should be available. A probable HOF'er in Cowher and out of all the job vacancies to be in the NFL I honestly think the Jets would be one of the more appealing when you look at the talent. I agree with the talent part, but why would Cowher come here? I seriously doubt Cowher will be coaching next year unless some organization throws a boat load of money @ him and give him GM duties. Maybe Marty Schottenheimer?

My personal favorite would be Rex Ryan. He's been around the league for a while and always runs a GREAT 3-4 defense. He is at the very least worth a look if we do fire Mangini. He's a guy I'd like a lot.
hoping4ASuperBowl
if their seriously considering fire Mangini, get rid of Sutton and Shotty too. Im tired of them always trying anything one little piece at a time. Bring in a new HC who utilizes the 3-4 and let them bring in coordinators they know or see fit for this system. Same goes for our players, like Thomas. He was a bust ever since 2006 then had one good year under Mangini, got an extension, and looks like garbage again. Obviously he put on quite a show for the Jets FO but they need to dumb his ass now because he's never had a good season two years in a row and continually disappoints. I was gonna use the analogy, you can never polish a turd, but Mythbusters exposed that.

They hired a 35 year old with one year of coordinator experience. The results are par for the course. If they do it and they don't have Cowher already lined up they are insane. I lean toward this way of thinking. We hired a young head coach who had an excellent start in his first year. Struggled the second year and has underperformed this year. Almost too many mistakes to write off. Poor team preparation/leadership. What to make of it? Has the team quit on him? Has the owner? Can Mangini learn from his past failures and grow into a better head coach once he changes to his staff? Too many questions... Agree...if they don't have a plan B they are losing their mind. I like Cowher. Thought he did an excellent job (his teams almost alway played with intensity especially against bottom-feeder teams) in Pittsburg but...New York ain't Pittsburgh, no NFL head coach has won a Super Bowl has won another as a head coach somewhere else. Does he want complete control ala Holmgren when he went to Seattle? Is this the best decision for the JETS? Do we look elsewhere...Rex Ryan, Spags, or another young wunderkind? All have many questions unanswered themselves... Wish I had an answer...we'll learn a little more after today...but its insane to keep doing the same thing and expecting different results...does this apply to keeping Mangini or changing head coaches every few years? Thought for today...Go JETS! Squish the Fish...catch a break from the Bills or Jags and hope for the best. Go JETS!

How could someone like Cowher bring in "his coordinators"? Are you suggesting that LeBeau would leave Pittsburgh? Because that's not happening. Because that's not happening. What I meant was they'll bring in their people. Instead of having people from the old regime still calling the shots. I don't think coordinators can do lateral moves....right? Meaning if you are a DC you have to be take a HC job....right?

Because that's not happening. He meant "his own" as in guys he hires. Not going with the incumbents. Not that he was going to bring the guys he previously had as his coordinators at his last stop. Are you suggesting that LeBeau would leave Pittsburgh? Because that's not happening. What he means is that when a new coach comes in he'll give the coordinator positions to who he likes best for the job. Which, because of differing philosophies, etc, is often not the two there beforehand. Although Cowher's first choices might not be there, he'll take what he can find, if he thinks it's an improvement over Sutton and Schotty. It's similar to the Spoils System. His performance last week and the glaring need for a real DC when we should have gotten one last year have sealed the Manatee's fate.
Fishooked
And lately if Shefter reports it, it's pretty much a done deal at this point. Ownership cannot sit idly by and watch this train wreck with PSLs and a new stadium looming either.
