Why the New York Jets should keep Eric Mangini

Recommended Posts

I am twenty years old, and have been a Jets fan since I was six. Today, I like many Jets fans of my generation reached the low point in our existence as fans.

Still... who are we to complain? At least we're not fans of the Detorit Lions.

Be that as it may, the New York Jets do not have a very bright future going forward into '09.

We have no "QB of the future" (and Simms thinks Favre will retire)

We have a lame duck head coach

Our starting tailback will be 31 next season

Its Lav Coles( our #1 WR) birthday:cheers: today (Monday Dec, 29) and he is now 31, and has definitely lost a step

We have three VERY highly paid 3-4 Hybrid LB's, and still can't generate a pass rush.

Highly paid Kenyon Coleman can't play

Shaun Ellis is getting old, and is a pothead

We have a revolving door at Strong Saftey and CB

Two of our young stars Kerry Rhodes and David Harris seem to have caught the regression syndrome from Erik Coleman and Jonathan Vilma.

We have a revolving door at slot reciever

Our #6 overall pick of a year ago has completley lost his confidence, and has actually hired Lawrence Taylor to breakdown the 3-4 LB position for him.

We have very little cap space available to fix all these issues.

Do you guys really think firing Eric Mangini will fix all these problems? This is not a young dolphin or falcon team that has ample cap space to improve. Whoever is coaching this team next year is going to either have to deal with a combination of veteran malcontents in decline and young players that are wet behind the ears.

Its more important for a good leader to learn than teach. Eric Mangini is the youngest coach in the NFL. He has had three years to learn from his mistakes. Lets give him another shot.

Tom Brady once said "when your backs are up against the wall, you can stay there and let the other teams keep stomping you, or you can try to fight your way out of it"

Lets give Eric a chance to fight his way out of it..

If they keep this bum, they better hire head coaches to be offense and deffense co-ordinators.

Maybe Romeo and Billick.

Its amazing..

Three years ago the Jets fans were all over this guys jock.

People forget that Mangini inherited an absolute mess.

The Jets brass rushed/botched the rebuilding process.. It really not his fault..

I'm 44, been a Jet fan since I was 5. Just so happened the Jets and the Mets were Champions that year of 1969. Off the top of my head I'm going to list the top 3 weakess assed coaches in Jet history.

1. Rich Kotite

2. Mangina

3. Herm

Mangina in front of Herm you say? Yeah because this fat ass had more to work with than even Herm did!

What do they all have in common besides they all sucked as coaches?

Soft!! No balls football!! Conservative offense. ***** play calling.

Now that I'm on my soapbox I want to comment on one more thing. How can Mangina or any other coach in sports complain about the shape of a player when they are around gyms and nutrition coaches all day and end up a huge fat ass? But especially Mangina because he's younger or around the same age as some of his players. Do as I say and not as I do?!!!

Woody...go get Bill Cowher...its about time we had a real coach around here!

The Packers were too strong an organization to stoop to your ego-maniac prima donna wishy woshy baby games, so you came and disgraced the easiest team to disgrace, the team know for being a second rate loser organization, my BELOVED JETS, my SOJ's

You made them pull one of the dumbest and classless moves in the history of the game, so u caN COME LIVE IN nj, and be in your own little world. Well, Brett my, man, you're my QB now, no matter how disgustingly u got here. If you melt under these NY lights, if you change your wishy washy mind mid season about what the F--- u want to do, you will go down below Barry Bond for s---bags.

YOU BETTER SHOW UP! YOU BETTER DOMINATE THE FINS!! FIND THAT FOUNTAIN, START MAKING FRIENDS WITH LC. Because the guy on the othe sidelines WANTS to play football!

It seems Mangini has the ability to absolutely kill players instincts with his read and react crap...

Harris - Started out just going on instincts and looked better that Patrick Willis. Now... not so much.

Lowery - Started out just going on instincts, looked really good and now looks like Justin Miller.

Rhodes -

Vilma -

Elam - Started out just going on instincts, looked really good and now blows!

Revis - Even he is starting to look like he's loosing a little.

Pace - Started out looking really good. Now looks like Bryan Thomas.

WTF is going on!

I stopped at 'fat ass'. Herm is pretty buff, I have to say.

Ironically, Herm is probably in better shape than most of his lazy ass players. Herm goes easy on them probably with the expectation that they condition themselves, since he obviously does put the effort into that and figuring out how to get the media to support him. That manipulating the media and getting rid of the GM planning pretty much takes up all his time, he spends something like 14 hours a day doing that.

It's sad that I am all but certain that Herm is a better HC than Mangini. Mangini is a poor man's Herm. The players all hate him, he passes all the time but in a stupid way, is a terrible leader, and keeps throwing no name players under the bus.

Herm somehow keeps getting the GM job everywhere he goes (seriously, how does he manage this? I still don't get how he does that). He also runs the ball. Like all the time. You know, against teams like the Niners, Broncos, Raiders, Chargers in Week 2, Seahawks, Bills etc. that is actually a near fool proof strategy. I am convinced Herm would have won 12 games this year with this power run blocking O-line, TJ, and he'd probably have kept Chad who is better than Favre anyway.

It's amazing. ONLY the Jets. ONLY THE JETS could manage to replace a completely clueless HC that doesn't understand the first thing about Xs and Os and clock management with an even bigger bonehead who can't even figure out how to call a run-first offense with the AFC's leading rusher for damn near most of the season and Leon Washington. The more I think about it the more I just can't believe how inept this man is. HERM IS BETTER THAN HIM!!! That is just so ridiculous. Can anyone believe this? Does anyone really want to argue this assertion? Spermy, I'm looking right at you. Do you want to dispute what I've just posted?

even i would not dare mess with spermy, mostly because he agrees with me 90% of the time :D

You've been a Jet fan for 39 years and you think Mangini and Herm are 2 and 3 on the worst coaches list? You've either got a short ****ing memory or are not such a hot judge of coaches. Charly Winner or Lou Holtz ring a bell?

Parcells seems to do alright making players stay in shape and he has one of the most disgusting bodies this side of Weiss.

People think this was a "super bowl team" and you want to dump half of the starters? Law, Barrett and Barton will probably go, but why the **** would you want to dump Thomas Jones? Ellis, Coles and Thomas probably aren't going anywhere and there is no reason to dump Elam. Maybe Ihedigbo should go and a starter put in place ahead of Elam on the depth chart. Does that sound like a sensible plan?

If Favre leaves $13M suddenly comes off the Jets cap figure. Besides, it's going up again anyway. They can still be players in the market. Not at the '08 level, but they can fill their holes.

I'm pretty sure Tn was saying just that - but even if he wasn't - I was.

You've got some real good 20/20 hind sight vision for a young kid.
