I wonder if this was more about Mangini losing the team or economics? Good news either way, but Woody needs to sell those PSL's and I bet you this was more about "money".

He will also have to make a spectacular splash with whoever he brings in here as the new coach to sell those PSL's.

Back to the future with Parcells?

Mangina and the Jets missed out on the playoffs after losing to Miami on Sunday. The Jets lost four of their last five games to finish 9-7.

Jets owner Woody Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum will appear at a 10 a.m. ET news conference. Mangina is not expected to attend.

Mangina, 37, was 23-26 in three seasons with the Jets, including 0-1 in the playoffs.

This season, the Jets acquired Brett Favre before the season started and ran off to an 8-3 start. But losses to Denver, at San Francisco, at Seattle and Sunday to the Dolphins left New York on the outside of the playoffs for the second straight season.

1050 ESPN Radio's Andrew Marchand contributed to this report
