MagicBizkit87
They better not get fired, and I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.
DMaynard
Not so sure about Westy anymore. Off the top of my pointy head, the ST gave up at least 3 fake punts for 1st downs, a KO return TD, several long punt returns, at least one successful onside kick, failed on a couple of their own onside kicks, had a blocked punt, missed PAT and a couple of very short FGs. Not a great year.
drago
Hard to look down on westhoff...He's sent two kick returners to the pro bowl in 4 years and has found special team aces every couple of seasons.

kelticwizard
Head coaches hire their own assistants generally. Westhoff might not have had a great year, but special teams is separate from the offense and defense and Westhoff is pretty universally recognized as one of the good ones. The club might sign Westhoff on the theory that the new man would almost certainly want him anyway, and this keeps him from going anywhere else. SoFlaJets
SoFla with the correct answer I really hope we get Cowher but if not I guess I'll be OK with Parcells for the next two seasons and then maybe we can get Holmgren or some other NFL-caliber HC...Cowher could be here for 7-10 years

drago
as far as i am concerned once Sutton has a one way ticket out of town i dont care what happens to the rest of the staff I'd shake your hand if i could. I know our offense was pretty bad but there is zero reason for our defense to look they way it did. I'll be personally offended if Sutton finds a job coaching anything over U14 girls flag football. Bleedin Green
You've got to let the new HC pick his guys, no matter what. Would it be nice if he decided to keep around Westhoff and to a lesser extent Callahan? Sure, but if these aren't the guys that he wants to work with then it is completely pointless. If we're going to trust our new head coach, whoever that ends up being, to run this team, we have to trust him to have say over all aspects of it. Otherwise you'll have a repeat of the Herm situation where a new HC is going to throw whatever coaches he didn't want but got saddled with under the bus as soon as something goes wrong (see: Teddy Cottrell circa 2003). I go along with you, Bleedin' Green and normally that is the way it is done. I only thought that the only one with any chance of getting hired before the head coach is Westhoff because special teams are unique. But you are right, the real way to do it is to hire the head coach first then let him pick the staff as he sees fit.
