Clayton also reported that there was no chance of Brett Favre becoming a Jet.

John Clayton, August 2008 regarding Brett Favre:

"I am 100% certain he is not going to the NY Jets."

Just saying ...

I think I can speak for Klecko here and say that we weren't attacking your credibility in any way. Just that hack Clayton's. ;)

There is no inside info here, it's all speculation. These "experts" know little more than regular fans, and they are often wrong.

Just last week, ESPN and Mortensen were reporting that Mangini is "safe" to keep his job. They were on the money with that one.

Cowher is going to meet with the Jets, go over his options, and make a decision with his family. To draw a conclusion one way or the other at this point is dumb.

If Woody really wants him, buh bye Tanny.

They don`t have to get rid of Tann. Just promote him to Pres. (which I don`t think they hired a new one since Jay Cross was fired ) and give Cowher the GM role also.....And I would let Cowher make his Draft Picks his first year the pother years Draft picks would be tied directly to his record 10 wins gets you picking from 3rd round down 4th,5th,6th....11 wins & higher and you get to pick the 2nd rounder win the Div. and you pick them all in the second year ....

Only the Jets could lose out on Cowher because of this garbage GM.

Tanny is a great GM. Mangini was fired because Tanny did his job SO WELL and Mangini couldn't do anything with Tanny's gifts.

He got a team in cap hell below the cap while adding players such as Thomas Jones, Alan Faneca, Damien Woody, Tony Richardson, Calvin Pace, and Brett Favre all in the past 2 seasons. So in other words, he took a team in cap hell, added a handful of Pro Bowlers (while drafting some very good players in Brick, Mangold, Leon, Harris, and Revis), and has us in a better cap situation than when he started.

He also proved he only cares about doing what is best for the franchise in firing a lame duck coach who he obviously is very good friends with despite it obviously being VERY HARD for him to do because it was what was necessary at the time for the betterment of the team as a whole.

How you (or anyone) can hate Tanny is unfathomable.

You mean John Clayton, ESPN's "insider" might be wrong? John Clayton's never wrong.

Great GM my ass. The accountant sucks. All he did this season is go out with woody's money and sign no brainer FA's. Losing out on Cowher because of the ****ing accountant is a travesty.

Something 31 other GMs, with money would have loved to do if Tanny didn't do it better. I'm sure the Jets were the only team that wanted Faneca, the only team that wanted Pace, the only team that wanted Woody, the only team that wanted Richardson, the only team that wanted Favre, etc, etc.

Tanny beat them all. And if you try and say that all he did was offer more money than the others (which isn't true), it is still a testament to him being a great GM by having the team in a position that he COULD offer more money for "no brainer FA's" than other teams could. And not just one or two of them, but FIVE of them!

really smart post here JJ....great idea Tanny would be better suited as team president anyway since he IS more of a politician than a football guy

Because he sucks. He's a mediocre drafter. A signer of no brainier FA's with woody's money and he kept this garbage staff together for 3 years. Oh and he's a ****ing ACCOUNTANT who knows nothing about football.

Did you miss my post to you earlier in this thread (post #23)? Or did you selectively choose to ignore it?

BS. 99% of bad teams have lots of cap room the next year because they cut lots of players. Thats not his doing. Also thats what a CAP GUY does. NOT a GM.
