Bleedin Green
ESPN Alert: Werder: Jets QB Brett Favre has torn biceps tendon in right shoulder. Just received this message via ESPN alerts. Figured I'd throw it up here since I didn't see it posted and can link to any other sources we can find. Certainly may help at least partially explain the drastic change in his play towards the end of the season.
Fishooked
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3800421 Sources: Favre won't need major surgery Updated: December 30, 2008, 3:02 PM ET Comment Email Print Brett Favre has been told by doctors that pain in his right shoulder is from a torn biceps tendon and some calcification in the area, but the New York Jets quarterback would need nothing more than arthroscopic surgery to repair the injury, sources said. Favre The sources Tuesday also said the 39-year-old Favre might be able to avoid an arthroscopic procedure altogether if he decides to play a 19th NFL season. Favre has been encouraged to take as much time as he needs before determining whether to return to the Jets. According to a source, Favre is expected to deliberate for several weeks, perhaps to allow New York time to hire former coach Eric Mangini's successor. Mangini was fired Monday after three seasons. Favre had complained about pain and seemed to suffer diminished arm strength late in the season. He indicated he was unwilling to undergo numerous surgeries if they were necessary to keep playing. The latest medical development -- the tear is located near the acromioclavicular joint, sources said -- suggests Favre can make his decision knowing major surgery is not necessary. Ed Werder covers the NFL for ESPN.

I dont get what that line means...does this mean in order to play next year, he can skip the surgery??? If he doesn't opt for surgery I don't want a busted-arm QB here, we've danced that dance before...

He can still avoid surgery AND come back. One is not dependent on the other.
crashingjet
I wonder if it happened when he helped throw Mangini in front of the bus... As he's throwing him in front of the bus, you can see Mangini saying "why would he throw that"?

BP
This goes back to Mangini covering up obvious injuries. he did it with Pennington last year with his mangled ankle. we always find this **** out after the facts. who does it help by hiding this **** and playing the player injured? Even David Harris was playing with a hernia for the beginning of the season.

Garb
Newsflash: Every player has an injury by years end. Plus, Favre has always been the "tough guy who plays through injury" - remember? I mean, he wouldn't want to ruin his consecutive start streak or anything:bag: It would not shock me if the Favre butt-kissing media machine is making this sound worse than it is to cover the frauds arse. I absolutely hate Brett Favre. Sure, his performance on Sunday didn't endear him to me - but I have always thought he was an over-rated fraud who has done far less than the media would lead you to beleive. I hated him in GB. I hate him now and I always will. Retire, you dumbass!

GodWearsAGrayHoodie
Hey, Farve did NOT throw Mangini under the bus. Someone else must have. If Farve had attempted to throw Mangini under the bus, it would have been intercepted and Eric would still have a job.

So I am all for it. And, yes, I am well aware that he "beat" the Pats on a Thursday night in Foxboro this season. I'm just betting that half my defensive starters won't be on IR in 2009. The point is, his coming back should piss you - the Jest fans - off. I don't understand the Farve worship from you all.

I still don't understand how that is possible, every year the Pats get credited for facing the adversity of injuries and while this year was clearly a different scenario with Brady they just ALWAYS seem to have significant number of injury issues. What the hell kind of disaster of a training / conditioning program does your team have? And how has your head trainer not been fired 10 times over? CTM
Lol, it's amazing when people try and say Chad was treated poorly here. Favre is absolutely getting bashed here, and rightfully so, yet Chad in 2004 also needed to win 2 out of his last 4 games to make the playoffs but only managed to win 1 out of 4. That year, we got help and made it in, but shouldn't change the fact that both QB's failed to hold up their end of the bargin. When it later came out that Chad was injured, it was Herm's fault for playing him and Chad was given a complete pass. With Favre, it's all dumped on him. Herm, Chad, Mangini, Favre, and I'll even throw Martin in there as well. Herm sucked then, sucks now, & deserves to get jettisoned from his second NFL franchise in 3 years. Mangini also sucking or doing sucky things doesn't negate that. Neither does Rich Kotite sucking, Lou Holtz, etc. And news flash: Chad would be "leading" the Dolphins to 6-10 or 7-9 if their defense didn't keep almost everyone under 20 points. What do they have, like 5 wins while scoring 17 or less? And the offense scored another 17 against the Jets in week 17. Answer this: how many wins did Miami have this year when the opponent scored a mere 20 points or more? One. Against Herm's Chiefs. Real impressive. Garb
And Im betting half your defensive starters will be a year older as well. The media myth is strong! Old dudes: Bruschi, Harrison and Vrable. Of those three, only Vrable will be back. Seau and Colvin were brought in to stop the bleeding in December. The D-backs (and Deltha was a desperation move and won't be back) are pretty much babies. Safties - babies. D-line. mid to late twenties. The defense is not as old as the media wants you to beleive.
