martz for OC!

why do you guys not like him? all I hear about him is he is a smart OC and he takes chances. on 4th and 1 at the 2 he will go for it unlike a certain former coach of ours.

And by week 10, everyone in the building will want to kill him. Also, forget about running the ball. If it's up to him, he wouldn't even consider running. He actually, when he was HC of the Rams, had 0, count them, 0, TEs on the roster.

a defensive HC like cowher or spags plus an offensive mind in martz to me is a great head staff.

Not sure how old you are but Martz has been around for a while. His reputation is well cemented as yes, being a offensive "guru" but he A) loves to pass the ball and B) usually gets all his QB's KILLED because all his plays are passes designed to hold the ball to allow route development.

Combine the fact that "high flying offenses" aren't usually successful in cold weather areas he just wouldn't work out.

He is just a slightly upgraded version of Schott. This guy will get your QB killed and has no idea how to call plays. Kurt Warner pretty much made this guy, Warner is virtually the only QB in the league that can run Martz offense, and even he broke down and became too old to run it. Martz offense only works with a QB that can make 3 reads in the time an average QB can make 1, and with really fast WRs that can break so damn quickly that they are open at those times the QB is making those reads. It requires absolutely absurd talent levels that just don't exist on teams normally, and if you have that level of talent few OCs will NOT be succesful with it.

NO! NO! NO!

The guy neglects the run time after ****ing time. I do not want that. He gets QB's killed!

Yep. That is the reason no one touched him as an HC after the Rams fired his arse in 2005.

He had a lot to do with the Rams losing Super Bowl XXXVI to the Pats. He refused to run the ball with Marshall Faulk as Kurt Warner was getting hit on just about every play.

Egotistical prick.

Keep him away from New York. You guys complain about how few carries Leon gets a game; that's going to be the number of carries for both Leon and Jones combined next year. Those that complained about the 3rd and short shotgun are going to have a field day with Martz. He wouldn't work with our squad at all.

What I'm about to say is a good explanation that I read of how to properly hire/use Martz when he was in Detroit:

He only helps you if you have the right defense.

He will kill you if you're going to run any sort of

  • bend/dont break
  • conservative, take away the big play
  • tampa 2,3,etc

The reason is that if Martz takes chances early and they fail and you're down in the 4th, your Defense can't help you get back in it. They're conservatively designed to let the other team kill clock and take a field goal.

Martz' offense requires a risky ATTACK defense. This defense will give up big plays, but will force turnovers and get the ball back when you're down in the 4th with 5 minutes left. This is probably the sort of Defense Vermeil left Martz with in St Louis, and helped Martz get to the big game in spite of himself.

There are GOOD reasons to run a conservative defense though. If that's what we want, then we DON'T want Mike Martz.
