Here's what now happens

I admit I would be less than overjoyed with the double-Schott.

Shanahan would be a good choice with the right DC.

Sure you can point to his lack of success "post-Elway" but his post-Elway QB's were Brian Griese and Jake Plummer for all but the last 2 seasons (one of them Cutler's rookie year). Look at these two with Shanahan and without. It's like he rubbed didn't-suck-as-bad cream all over them for that part of their careers. How he got a 19:4 td:int ratio out of Griese & a pair of 7-int seasons out of Plummer I will never know.

A lot of Shanahan's woes stem from having a lot of bad players (and yes, they were his choices & not merely players he was saddled with). He has an obsession with has-been's and other teams' high-draft-pick busts over the past half-decade:

Dewayne Robertson

Marco Coleman

Gerard Warren

Courtney Brown

Stephen Alexander

Javon Walker

Kenard Lang

Ebenezer Ekuban

Sam Adams

Travis Henry

Daniel Graham

Brandon Stokley

John Engelberger

Chad Jackson

Montrae Holland

Jamie Winborn

Alvin McKinley

Jake Plummer

...am I missing anyone?

It's like his ego will not allow that these players just weren't as good as he thought. That since they were good once, or were good (if not elite) draft prospects once, that their failures or fall-offs had to stem from non-Shanahan coaching & influence.

The only moves I really liked were the Bailey-for-Portis trade (given his past success with no-name RB's; a CB like Bailey is much harder to find), and the Dre' Bly-for-Tatum Bell/George Foster trade. But I mean look at all the other garbage he picked up along the way.

The guy could make Terry Bradway look like a top-notch GM when he puts his mind to it. OK maybe not top-notch, but certainly not markedly worse.

He's a good HC, but a sucky GM. I don't want him if he's got full control. Either he comes here & the Jets retain Tannenbaum, they wait it out for Parcells (brief stint as he would give us), or go with some young blood with an actual track-record of being a top-notch coordinator (Rex Ryan, Steve Spagnola) now that Cowher appears to be out of the picture.

I would take Marty over Shanahan who has done nothing since Elway left. The guys team play hard physical football something would do great in this area.

and Schottenheimer has done what? Got his team to the 1st round of the playoffs, only to blow the game and be upset? How is that an improvement.
