Jets MUST make splash with coaching hire.

NY JETS 29

Recommended Posts

All I'm saying is that a year away from PSL's the Jets MUST make a splash with what head coach they bring in. Woody wants Favre back for that reason alone, and with being able to argue that Eric deserved another year here ,if we were to go to coordinator route again and this coach is to fail in season one and this organization is to miss the playoffs three straight seasons it would be the worse possible scenario for this organization.

According to Newsday today (from Beningo & Roberts) Woody has stated that he would be okay letting go of Favre if the Head Coach didn't want him and had good reason not to have him around in 2009, if Brett chooses to return and play. They are also giving him a deadline of the NFL Scouting Combine which to me means they are going to look at drafting a QB early on to compete with Clemens for the job while Ratliff continues to run the Practice Squad / 3rd stringer role, all he ever will be. Brooks Bollinger 2.

BTW:

1. M.Schottenheimer

2. Steve Spaguolo

3. Jim Fassel / Brian Billick

Rex Ryan? There's a reason Baltimore didn't hire him.

Mike Shanhan? Why don't we just hire Fireman Ed?

I think if Favre goes, we try to bring in someone else via free agency (not sure who is available) or through trade. I dont think after 2 seasons without the playoffs we go into camp with a rookie qb and clemens. I understand ATL and BALT did it, but we have PSL's a year away.

The only coach who will make a splash just rejected the Jets because he likely does not like the way the owner directing the franchise. Schottenheimer is not a splash. Shanahan is not a splash unless he brings John Elway in his prime.

The biggest name that is going to be available at the Quarterback position is Michael Vick. Donovan McNabb is not going to be traded, not this year anyway, and Vick is a bigger name than Derek Anderson.

How is a 1st round pick not a big name? The Jets could make a move to trade up for Matthew Stafford (and I'd be 110% against it), but he is a big name. Or maybe they could get Knoshon Moreno from Georgia, a RB yes, but a Jersey native, and cut ties with Thomas Jones. Another move I wouldn't agree with, but these are the Jets. I don't rule anything out.

The Jets have made a splash with their last 3 coaching hires. A Titanic like splash.

It may not be a splash in the aspect of Shanahan getting fired and Marty's playoff record, but the names alone are a splash, simply because of PSL's.

I dont expect us to do much next season regardless of the coach. but knowing some fans we will get a good coach he will get 7 wins and everyone will want him gone. a coach can have a bad first year, as thats expected ecspecially with our tough ass schedule. I think the bills, jags, and raiders are the only teams we face that finished under .500. I think spags can make this a good defense, but ratliff or kellen will have rookie pains. Id say give the new coach at least 2 seasons. with our tough schedule 7 or more wins shows promise!

maybe spags wouldnt be such a bad choice, he comes from good eagle d stock, if they dont make the playoffs its only his first year, he is cheaper, any big name is going to want money, control and time.... although he might need different players to play his d....i am also a eagle season tix holder....and i would love to, love to have a real killer d and a fan base that that was in to it for a change.........

Michael Vick, I highly doubt that will happen. I cant see anyone taking him and wanting to deal with PETA and the likes protesting at every game.

For PSL purposes, yes we MUST make a big splash.

For doing what's best for the team, I'm not so sure.

the question is if woody likes a guy like spags over shanny, would he hire shanny just for more publicity? I hope he does not. which is why I hope shanny signs somewhere quicks which makes spags a leading candidate who in my mind would make a splash considering he has a great defense.

If PETA really is planning on doing that if he's signed by an organization than they really do have zero lives at that organization. Enough is enough, they made their point about defending Pitbulls, vicious dogs to begin with. Let Michael live his life and leave him alone, he's served enough time and paid enough dues.

I bet there will be several groups that would protest against him unless he would become a spokesperson for animal rights.

Not to start a debate here; Pitbulls are not vicious animals, people make them mean and aggressive. If raised properly, they are one of the most affectionate breeds around.

124, you realize that makes no sense right?

Clemens is an UFA after the 2009 season. This is his last year with the team. They're drafting a QB to compete with him? Compete with him for what? Are the Jets going to carry Clemens, Ratliff, Ainge AND this rookie QB?

Or are they cutting Ainge now for this mythical rookie QB so Ratliff can run the practice squad?

Explain to me how it makes no sense. Erik Ainge was a Mangini selection, a late round draft pick garbage Quarterback who didn't see any time in the Preseason until the Eagles game for a reason. Brett Ratliff or Erik Ainge, most likely Erik Ainge, would go.

It makes PERFECT sense.

The rookie would compete with Clemens for the job. If Clemens wins for the 2009 season, obviously he would receive an extension. If Clemens loses the competition, he will be gone after the 2009 season.

Simple as that.

You have to take risks sometimes when finding your franchise QB. They don't even have to draft the guy to compete in the 1st round. Could be the 2nd or 3rd.

I find it hard to believe the Jets are going to put this team in the hands of a rookie quarterback. When Favre retires I would not be surprised if they make a play at Anderson...McNabb is not so far fetched as he is due a huge bonus in March. Also Marc Bulger could be on the market as well.... ok rip them all to shreads but would take any of them over Clemens, Ratliff or Ainge. As for draft picks why not finally load up on defensive players that can actually make plays? also a wr should be a priority.

Lets not be too naive here... this guy has a long way to go and will come back as a running back at best. There is no way in hell any major market team will take a flier on this guy. If anything Dallas will pick him up as they are used to being team chaos.

If JaMarcus Russell struggles again in 2009 you could see Michael Vick as the starting QB for the Raiders in 2010.

I would welcome him with open arms to the Jets, personally. He's too small for a RB. He will be a QB somewhere in the NFL, the new Football league whatver that is called, or the CFL. Hopefully the NFL.

The only QB I can see the Jets bringing in minus who is on the active roster or through the draft is Jeff Garcia.

McNabb looks like he will get one more year in Philly unless he demands out, which could happen reports say he is not happy about the benching.

Anderson another possibility, but I say stay away, far away.

Any word of Mike Vick would make zero sense to me, IMO.

You just keep drafting QBs until you have one. Usually that means in the 1st round or 2nd round if there's someone that you think can pan out.

Also I can't for the life of me understand why people want Garcia. This guy has got to be the most overhyped QB in the league. Everyone that has absolutely no idea about football but that wants to look smart will always bring this guy up and act like he is some hidden talent that is being robbed of Pro Bowl appearances because of some organized conspiracy against him. In reality he is old and he sucks. He doesn't have an arm, is too short, is too old, and throws something like 1 TD a game. He is like some whack version of CP that is mini-sized and has more mobility. The dude is like 5'11. There is a reason why no GM and HC in their right mind will give this guy a starting QB job and salary. He has his PR people work overtime to try and create that hype and get that type of coin, but apparently NFL teams actually have not been fooled, only the fake fans have.

If the Jets are stupid enough to actually bring this guy in, you know that this franchise is run by a bunch of clowns, although you already knew that.
