Green DNA
When you are the comeback player of the year twice, I'm not sure that it is an honor anymore. It points more to inconsistency than anything else.

kelticwizard
LOL!!! When it gets to the point that an award is automatically turned into a criticism, you know that people don't want to face reality. Pennington is a lot better than he was given credit for. 32green
Twice in 3 years no less. Oy! He's going to gnaw his own arm off under the pile during the Ravens game to prepare for teh 2010 award. "He's a warrior, playing through that dismemberment" I actually cant bring myself to dislike the guy. Good for him.

When it gets to the point that an award is automatically turned into a criticism, you know that people don't want to face reality. Pennington is a lot better than he was given credit for. He sucked moose balls last year and he was healthy. I have never heard of a player in any sport getting two comeback awards before. Maybe in two more years he can go for the hat trick. Jetsfan80
If Pennington beats the Ravens, I will never say another bad thing about him again. My guess is, it will be same old Pennington this weekend. Pennington has saved his worst performances for the best defenses, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and the Patriots (back when their D was solid). Bob
I'm a Pennington fan and I thought the first one, coming back from injury, was well deserved. I agree this one seems silly. I mean, what's he coming back from, besides bad coaching and a lousy o-line?
Klecko73isGod
Wait a second. I understand why Chad won this after '06, he was COMING BACK from major shoulder surgery. He didn't come back from an injury this year. He just sucked last year. How does he even qualify for the award?

Hey, they had to give the award to somebody, Pennington got it by default.
JohnnyHector
While it was due to poor decision-making on his own part, Antonio Bryant should've won this after not even playing football last season.

SMC
These back-handed compliment awards always crack me up. Like the "Most Improved Player" award in other sports. WTF is that? "You used to suck before but you don't now, congrats!"

kelticwizard
Who says the award is for people who were injured last year? Was Kerry Collins injured last year? NEW YORK (AP) - The voting for the 2008 NFL Comeback Player of the Year selected by the Associated Press in balloting by a nationwide panel of the media: Chad Pennington, Miami 19 Kerry Colllins, Tennessee 6 Jake Delhomme, Carolina 6 Kurt Warner, Arizona 4 Antonio Bryant, Tampa Bay 4 Anquan Boldin, Arizona 4 Joey Porter, Miami 3 Philip Rivers, San Diego 1 Ronnie Brown, Miami 1 Willie Anderson, Baltimore 1 Ryan Clark, Pittsburgh 1 Source

JohnnyHector
Who says the award is for people who were injured last year? Was Kerry Collins injured last year? Not unless he got a nasty papercut from carrying a clipboard. The point people were making is that it was understandable giving the award in Pennington in '06 after returning from a major injury. To give him the award this year, as an acknowledgment of his "comeback" from a 1-7 season as a starter, is laughable.
kelticwizard
He sucked moose balls last year and he was healthy. He had Mangini for a coach and Clark & Clement for "protection". That's something to come back from.
Irish Jet
Drew Brees won it too after a down year. It's not all about injuries. Pennington was benched and and eventually released, that is something to come back from.

I mean, what's he coming back from, besides bad coaching and a lousy o-line? I agree. I believe that either he should have gotten MVP or atleast be respected for the nomination for the award. The person who should have gotten Comeback Player OTY should have been another Dolphin.....Joey Porter. I cant front. The Dolphins were pretty impressive this year. CTM
I'll try again.. In other news, Chad won his first "Most inconsistent player" of the decade award. Congrats!
Gainzo
Who says the award is for people who were injured last year? Was Kerry Collins injured last year? KSJets
Remember though, it was revealed after last season that Chad was, in fact, injured. Remember the torn ligaments in his ankle? Still, I think it was well deserved. He's had a pretty impressive turnaround.

JetsTitans63
Chad Pennington is the NFL feel good story from rags to riches come on guys. He was cut by the JETS for future hall of famer Brett Favre and then beat him in the last game to win the AFC east. Would Chad win the award if he lost to JETS...
