it said if we traded him to any other NFC North team before the end of the year, we'd owe the pack 3 #1s.

Jets | Team unlikely to pursue Shanahan

Wed, 31 Dec 2008 12:09:36 -0800

shanahan has exactly 1 PO win in the last 10 years

hermie has as many

Exactly, what is the attraction here? The guy has lived on glory from a past decade for far too long. He chose the personnel and coached them up, yet Mangini had the same record over the past 3 years. Jets fans should be pissed if they bring him in, he's a has been. Didn't Tom Flores win the SB once, bring him in too.

ESPN's John Clayton reports that fired Broncos coach Mike Shanahan is unlikely to return to the sidelines until "2010 or later."

Clayton believes the Jets could land Shanahan, but they appear primed to pry Steve Spagnuolo away from the Giants. Shanny doesn't want to coach up a rehab project like Detroit, St. Louis, or Kansas City, so there aren't many great fits out there. If Shanahan stays idle and collects the money the Broncos still owe him this year, he, Bill Cowher, and Mike Holmgren will likely all be available in 2010. You couldn't go wrong with any one of them.

New York Jets will contact Mike Shanahan about their coaching vacancy

by Dave Hutchinson/The Star-Ledger Thursday January 01, 2009, 7:48 PM

The Jets plan to reach out to ex-Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, to see if he's interested in their vacant head coaching position.

The Jets plan to contact former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, according to a person with knowledge of the team's coaching search. That person requested anonymity because he's not authorized to speak for the organization. "The Jets will reach out to Shanahan to find out what his interest is," said the person. "But it's not like he's a shoo-in if he's interested."

The Jets will begin the interview process Friday with in-house candidates Brian Schottenheimer and Bill Callahan.

Saturday they will sit down with Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who has also drawn interest from the Browns, Broncos and Lions. The Browns and Lions have asked, and been granted, permission to speak to Spagnuolo.

While the Jets have asked for permission to speak with Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, they have several other coaches on their radar who are in the postseason and are awaiting the results of this weekend's games.

Among other candidates being considered are Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks and Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. The Jets haven't ruled out the college ranks as well.

"But it's not like he's a shoo-in if he's interested." WTF?
