On the way to LI yesterday..took the orient point ferry and it was the small

boat..It was packed and the seating on this vessel was limited

we sit down while kids are grabbing a bite to eat, meanwhile all the seats and

booth filled up, my son asks this lady who is seated at a booth with room for

4 people and she sez no, "i want to be able to put my feet up", so he goes

to another guy in booth who is seated at another booth by himself and asks

him if he can sit..he sez no a friend is coming up!!!

that phucking friend never showed up and 20 people were standing the whole

way.

yes i found another seat for my son, i gave him mine

oh i wanted to do battle yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try taking the LIRR with all the self-important suit-wearing eejits with their bags on the chairs, that will cheer you up real good.

Both times my wife was pregnant, only blue collar types ever offered a seat.

People are douches.

My only hope is that karma has a bus run over them later in day!!!

Me too, but the reality is when they finally get their self-important azzes into work they prolly get promoted to Senior VPs' before lunch.

There was a lunatic retired cop who would ride the railroad every day and tell cell-phone people and loud-talkers to shut the heck up.

Every day.

Finally he slapped a couple of folks and got rightfully arrested, but I secretly admired him.

I'm a daily LIRR commuter and, while I hate loud people - especially those carrying on inane cellphone conversations - this guy is an overly obnoxious doosh. While there may be oodles of annoying yentas on the train, yapping it up, there's nothing admirable about verbally and physically terrorizing women. He's also a hypocrite regarding etiquette, because he sprawls his ass out in the five-seaters.

I used to take the Long Beach line and, on rare occassion, would get an urgent call from work that I would have to take, speaking at the lowest audible level for the shortest duration possible. In those cases, I hoped this assclown was on the train and in my car to see if he would say something, because his whole act is predicated on the fact that he is physically imposing (6'3" or so), but I'm bigger than him and twenty-plus years younger.

And while you're championing the blue-collar worker for their train manners, 32g, these guys are some of the worst offenders when it comes to making noise. Many seem to love using the push-to-talk on their Nextel's on speaker at full volume, usually with some chooch spouting profanities on the other end. It makes for a pleasant ride when I can't even drown out the noise with my iPod.

Hey Johnny I dont disagree that this guy was ultimately a bully and I have no problem with his being arrested. I think many applauded him for merely bringing the "issue" to the forefront of conversation...

I cant say I really would have appreciated seeing him in action from what you say.

And I too took cell phone calls on the trains discreetly....

I think most right-thinking riders appreciate it if they see someone showing the courtesy of keeping it short and low-toned.

I was also a daily commuter and while I never ran into this guy (I was mostly the Babylon line) he hi-lighted a problem for me, and a lot of folks I know, about self absorbed rude pricks on these trains....and meek passengers who while paying several hundred bucks a month to ride, were afraid to challenge the most egregious of offensive behavior.

And the observation about the blue-collar guys giving up their seats was my wife's ( another daily commuter) not mine, so take that for what it was worth....

It takes all kinds as they say.

( for the record, I have told people to tone it down, lol)

I never have that problem--I'm usually standing up for the hour or so each way on my journey no matter what. I don't mind the people on the subways, although I'm usually drowning them out by listening to music or reading. I've also perfected the art of dozing while standing up. The Nextel worker people can get annoying when they have their phone on speaker, though.

Yes, and the announcements from the LIRR about being courteous to your fellow riders have been as effective as the wildly successful "Clean Train Campaign"... :P

I cant say I really would have appreciated seeing him in action from what you say.

I only saw him on the train a few times, but a friend of mine used to see him more frequently and has told me some stories...

And I too took cell phone calls on the trains discreetly....

My wife couldn't understand why I was talking so low and would bitch that she couldn't hear me when she called me for some inane reason... I tell her to send me a text message and only call if it's an emergency.

And the observation about the blue-collar guys giving up their seats was my wife's ( another daily commuter) not mine, so take that for what it was worth....

I was just defending the white-collar workers (though I'm only one in job function, not an actual suit), as they're not the only dickbags that ride the train.

( for the record, I have told people to tone it down, lol)

So have I, but it's only been after a real ****ty day, or if I stopped for a few drinks after work (liquid courage).

I've also perfected the art of dozing while standing up.

I mastered this technique when I took the F train from Roosevelt Avenue... in the mornings, it was packed so tight that you couldn't fall over if you tried, although I was Godzilla-like in size compared to the many Asian passengers.
