Jetkid94
Just thinking of some guys if we get spags or anyother 4-3 minded coach. which of these top FA would fit the 4-3? DL Julius Peppers, panthers Albert haynesworth, titans Terrell Suggs, ravens Bertrand Berry, cardinals Chris Canty, cowboys Rocky Bernard, seahawks LB Ray lewis, ravens Karlos Dansby, cardinals mike peterson, jaguars bart scott, ravens James Farrior, steelers channing crowder, phins who plays 4-3, who plays 3-4? notable DB FA just so some poeple can see our choices to help out revis. Asomoga, raiders Dawkins, eagles Landry, ravens Robinson, texans
RutgersJetFan
Get the idea of Suggs, Lewis, or Landry being FA's out of your head right now. Not happening. Scott might hit the market, and McCallister's going to get cut.

RutgersJetFan
they can only franchise 1 and they wont re-sign the other 2. theyll be in cap trouble. Correct, which is why they're releasing McCallister and letting Scott walk. A deal with Lewis (as well as Jason Brown) is pretty much done and Bisciotti's demanded they keep Suggs by any means necessary...meaning Scott's the odd man out, not Suggs. Ozzie will structure the deals accordingly, but they're all staying on. You're overvalueing Landry, he's not the big of a commodity. He's a RFA who'll probably get a 2nd round tender and there's no way any team's taking that type of risk considering the fact that he was IR'd this year and he's not worth that anyways. Jetkid94
Why does it matter which ones play the 4-3? if we get spags or another 4-3 mind, wouldnt you think we should sign a couple guys who play the 4-3? ecspecially since we have some true 3-4 guys that would need a lot of teaching for the 4-3. Who needs teaching? Thomas and Pace already spent 5 years in the 4-3. All the teaching in the world isn't going to help them. They suck at it. IIRC, Asomoga will likely be franchised again. Probably no money for top tier guys. If Favre retires they'll be able to add a couple of mid-level FAs.

DMaynard
Why does it matter which ones play the 4-3? It certainly does not matter with DBs. The question there is, are they better at man-to-man or zone or both and what the new coach prefers to emphasize.
BroadwayJoe12
I distinctly remember this conversation happening a couple years ago when mike tomlin was going to take over the steelers job...funny thing happened, he didn't change the defense. Spags, from what i've been able to see, is a smart guy, which is why I really don't think he would overhaul the defense to make it a classic 4-3. KudosForND
I think if jets become 4-3 we have Gholston at RE, maybe coleman moves in dt or they just plain bench him LB Pace,Harris,Thomas/Barton We really dont need to pick up anything.

Nothing? Maybe a linebacker that can cover something? Barton is GONE. He is an UDFA and I'd prefer some young meat that can run whether we're in the 3-4 or 4-3. Jaded Green
ok so if they suck we have to get guys who know how to play the 4-3. which is why my question is who plays the 4-3?We don't really have the cap room to do a major overhaul. We better hope some of these guys have a better go their 2nd time around if we go to a 4-3. Is not Vilma a free agent or did the Saints extend him and give us a 2nd pick and The Giants their 1st in 2010's draft?

The Jets only have cap issues right now if they leave the entire roster and all its players' contracts as-is. If they REALLY wanted to, they could clear up between $40-50M for 2009 with Brett Favre as the only big-name player being cut.
