uart
What about Jim Fassel? Supposing Spags goes to Detroit and Shotty Sr. and Shanahan both aren't interested in us, Fassel at least has Head Coaching experience. Who else is available?

If this is true then just....wow. A guy would rather coach for Al Davis & the Raiders than us because we MAY have Brett Favre for one more year. Wow. Boynton Beach Jets
Hey, what about Brian Billick??? The old offensive genius who has not had an offensive thought in the last 10 years. He came to Baltimore as an offensive guru and his team was a horrible offensive team. He won a Super Bowl because he inherited a incredible defense led by Ray Lewis. Let the Raiders fight over the Billicks and Fossels

kelticwizard
I really don't think Fassel was a bad coach, actually. He had a tendency to try to be a player's coach, but he usually managed to crack down enough to get the job done. What killed him with the Giants was breakdowns by special teams two years in a row, and Westhoff, one of the best, is still on the payroll. It's not going to happen, but the choice was not outlandish.
BP
And guess what, they made the playoffs. Not bad for a guy that almost had a nervous breakdown that year. and still can't find a job in the NFL. BUT..BUT..BUT..HE MADE THE PLAYOFFS.HAHAHAHA! Go look at some tape of their playoff game against the Vikings in 1997..oh wait, how old were you in 1997? Hofstra Jet
i think he took a team to the super bowl.. how many jets coaches have done that? 1.. that makes him smarter then every coach the jets have ever had, minus parcells. i would really love to give this guy a shot, i think he would be a great choice.. coordinators rarely pay off, and with the talent on this team, we need a proven head coach. He had one of the greatest embarrassments in playoffs history in 1997. not only did he blow a lead in that Vikings game, but the Giants were actually having fist fights among their own players on the sidelines with seconds remaining. he is a great coach, no doubt. Let me ask you something. if your criteria is so important, then why has he been without a job for so long? even as an assistant? he got fired as wr coach by the Ravens and is now begging Al Davis for a job. Hofstra Jet
not sure to be honest. i wish i knew. but with all the people turning the jets down, i really want fassel to get a shot. I remember his failure in 97, but i also remember 2000 when they were in the super bowl. i mean, mangini got us to the playoffs once, and we got smoked.. herm edwards 3 times, winning 2 games.. no one says herm was a better coach, but he had better playoff production then mangini.. as a jets fan, i dont care how its done, i just wanna be in the playoffs year after year.. thomas jones can be beating the ever living **** out of eric smith on the sideline, but if we are in the playoffs im happy.. dont get me wrong, i would love a super bowl, but first we need playoffs to get there.. with all that being said, i want to see fassel as coach since most have turned us down. there hasnt been much talk of him, and he isnt my number 1 guy, but i dont understand all the bashing of him. some is ok, but everyone seems to hate the guy.
