Wayne Huizenga: Bill Parcells to stay with Dolphins

MIAMI GARDENS - Bill Parcells will stay as Dolphins executive vice president of football operations and not leave for another NFL team this offseason, team owner H. Wayne Huizenga said today.

"Bill's going to stay," Huizenga said. "He told me [Friday] he's going to stay. He said he likes it here."

The possibility Parcells might leave the team after only one season surfaced last week -- just as the team he rebuilt earned a playoff berth for the first time since 2001.

Parcells' contract allowed him to leave after one season and still receive the $12 million remaining on his four-year deal if the team is sold.

The sale of a majority share to New York real estate billionaire Stephen Ross is expected to be completed shortly. Parcells would then have 30 days to leave without sacrificing the money due him in the final three years of his contract.

The existence of the contract clause gave the 67-year-old Parcells a lucrative way out.

Miami's improbable season ended Sunday with a 27-9 loss to Baltimore in a first-round playoff game. The Dolphins went 11-5, a dramatic turnaround from last year's 1-15 record.

The Dolphins' revival began a year ago when Huizenga hired Parcells. Parcells managed similar turnarounds as a coach, taking over losing teams with the Giants, Patriots, Jets and Cowboys and transforming them into winners.

Parcells has a history of being on the move, and he has held three jobs in the past two years. He quit coaching after the 2006 season with Dallas and was a TV network analyst in 2007. He spent four years with the Cowboys, three with the Jets and four with the Patriots.

Ross bought 50 percent of the Dolphins last winter and is expected to soon exercise an option to purchase up to 95 percent.

Parcells has always been about the money. If he can pocket $9M from the fish while simultaneously collecting million$ from another team, you have to believe he's going to think about that long and hard.

It's simple... "Look guys, I'm going to take my option to opt out unless..................."

good who cares anyway-I don 't want him coaching the Jets for 11 minutes and then he'll quit on us again-screw the fat man...if we can get Shanahan good if not then Rex Ryan-I like the way he runs a defense-oh yea and no Favre please...

I didn't expect Heizonga to say he's leaving. it would devalue the sale of the team.

What? I am pretty sure all financial details had to be divulged. And while Par$ells is a commodity, it is not like he is going to push the value from $765 million to 1 billion. I am also sure Ross know of Par$ells nomadic nature.
