BaumerJet
It seems he lost the Evening Gown portion of the pre lim... Brian Schottenheimer is early front-runner in Jets' coach search Posted by dhutchin January 04, 2009 14:10PM It's early in what the Jets have promised will be a long and thorough search for a new head coach, but offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has emerged as the early front-runner, according to two people with knowledge of the situation. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they're not authorized to speak for the Jets. Schottenheimer, in his third season with the Jets, interviewed on Friday and his session with general manager Mike Tannenbaum was described as "impressive'' by one person. Tannenbaum liked Schottenheimer entering the process but he realizes Schottenheimer could be a tough sell to an angry fan base. Schottenheimer, who came close to getting the Dolphins head job two seasons ago but pulled himself out of contention, is a young, high-energy guy. The Jets scored 405 points this season, the third-most in franchise history. He's known as a bright, offensive mind and some believe he was hamstrung a bit this season by the presence of Brett Favre, who threw 22 touchdowns but also had a league-high 22 interceptions. As for Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, word is he did a solid job but he wasn't as prepared as one would think -- and for good reason. First, the Giants are getting ready for a playoff game. Secondly, he has interviewed with four teams this week, including the Browns, Lions and Broncos in addition to the Jets. Thus far, the Jets have interviewed Schottenheimer, Spagnuolo and assistant coach Bill Callahan. Today, two new names emerged: The New York Daily News reported that Cardinals assistant head coach/offensive line coach Russ Grimm is a candidate and the NFL Networks says former Ravens coach Brian Billick is expected to be interviewed. The Jets' current list of candidates include the aforementioned group along with Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and Boston College head coach Jeff Jagodzinski. Other names on the Jets' radar are Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/01/jets_schottenheimer_is_early_f.html If Woody & Tannenbaum go with Shottenheimer, they are looking to NOT sell off the PSL's to anyone! Come on Woody, we know your people read these posts - get a clue - you need to put a winner (or at least a contender) on the field in order to sell your precious season tickets. Shottenheimer (both dad & son) will not do that. Steve Spagnuola will do that - Everyone here knows that! Why don't you?
