Colts' Meeks Coming In to Talk on Friday

Recommended Posts

The Jets are filling out this week's head-coaching dance card very nicely. We hear the team received permission from Indianapolis late today to interview Ron Meeks, the Colts' long-time defensive coordinator.

Owner Woody Johnson, GM Mike Tannenbaum and the Jets' coach-search team will conduct the interview at the Atlantic Health Training Center in Florham Park, N.J., on Friday.

Meeks had been an NFL assistant with Dallas (1990), Cincinnati (1992-96), Atlanta (1997-99), Washington (2000) and St. Louis (2001) before settling down with Tony Dungy. The two arrived in Indy in 2002 and, along with OC Tom Moore, began a run of seven consecutive playoff appearances. No. 7 concluded with the 23-17 overtime loss at San Diego in Sunday's AFC Wild Card Game.

Among the highlights of Meeks' defenses: they finished third in total yardage allowed in 2007, second in passing yardage allowed three times ('02, '06, '07) and in scoring defense were second in '05 and first last season. This year the Colts were 11th in total defense, 24th vs. the run, sixth vs. the pass and seventh in scoring defense.
