Jets' quarterback Brett Favre made his first public comments after he was criticized by teammate Thomas Jones last week. In case you missed it, Jones went Hot 97 in New York City following the season-ending loss to the Miami Dolphins. You can check out the full story by The Star-Ledger's Dave Hutchinson, but here's just a quick snippet from Jones' interview:

"When somebody's not playing well, you need to come out of the game. You're jeopardizing the whole team's effort because you're having a bad day. To me, that's not fair to everybody else. I mean, you're not the only one on the team."

Additional comments suggested Favre strayed away from his teammates off the field. Favre granted an interview with his hometown paper, the Biloxi Sun Herald. Whereas the Daily News ran with the headline, "Thomas Jones' barbs irk Brett Favre," the Sun Herald opted for "Favre not worried by teammates' comments." Classic example of how you spin it. The article hints Favre is disappointed in the comments but hardly distraught:

"I am not going to let one or two guys ruin a career for me or the relationship I had with my teammates,'' Favre said.
"If you poll my past teammates, I bet 90 percent would say they enjoyed playing with me.
"I am not insecure to let the comments bother me.''

After fishing similar comments from the Sun Herald, the Daily News draws its own speculation on Favre's future: Favre, 39, spoke in the past tense, another indication that he's leaning toward retirement. He also said he's not planning to have surgery on the torn biceps tendon in his throwing arm, defying the team's medical staff, which recommended arthroscopic surgery if he wanted to keep playing.
