The United National Gridiron League was developed for one specific goal: to create professional opportunities for college football players! The league will evaluate players based on their football specific abilities all while giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills against the top rising talent in the country.

Currently, the system used to evaluate talent for professional football is seriously flawed. Many young athletes who aspire to play professional football are subject to college discrimination. Simply put, if they haven't attended a division 1 school, in most cases they are never given a legitimate opportunity. In addition, some of these athletes are barred because they may lack one or more of the following categories: star quality, statistical measurements, political sports connections, and/or appropriate financial resources.

The United National Gridiron League's goal is to expand the talent pool of quality players, enhance the selection process and enable professional football teams to provide the highest quality product to their loyal fan base. As for the athlete, they will be given an opportunity to make a professional career on their own terms rather than being victim to the typical standards set forth by the faulty system mentioned above.

Lastly, it is important to note that every aspect of the United National Gridiron League is geared towards supporting professional football leagues such as the NFL, CFL, AFL, or any other professional football league, and aiding them in their efforts to put only the best talent on the field. We will provide an atmosphere that will increase the prosperity of the aforementioned football leagues while elevating the integrity of the overall game. With the development of a professional player evaluation league, there are numerous benefits for everyone involved but ultimately, the most important benefit is the development of the player. We are the United National Gridiron League...developing tomorrow's stars of the game!

UNGL

UNGL Structure

The United National Gridiron League will have the same professional rules as the NFL. The teams are named and selected by the Board of Directors. Each team will be given their respective team colors and will have an outline on the appearance. All ownership will follow the league rules and structure. There will be guidelines and responsibilities of the owners that will be required to help increase the visibility of the league and professionalism of the players. Everything asked by team ownership will be in the best interest of the United National Gridiron League and the teams.

The selection of the Cities is strictly based on media markets and high football demographics. We look to give Cities the brand association that they experience presently with their teams. Our intent is to give the fan the feeling that they are watching the development of a player that could be selected in the next draft or ultimately play for their favorite team. Demographically we understand where football plays a part of the community, city or state.

UNGL

PLayer Selection

The United National Gridiron League will send detailed information to colleges and universities throughout the country informing coaches and players of our evaluation camps. The player and/or agent will be responsible for completing the player questionnaire and uploading the players highlight videos to the UNGL website. The UNGL has two invitation only combines, the first which will take place in November is for those players whos collegiate eligability was exhausted during the 2007 or 2008 collegiate seasons. The second combine will be held in December for those players who's eligability will expire after the 2009 season.

These pre-selected athletes are responsible for their own travel arrangements to and from the tryout location. During the course of the tryouts, the UNGL will be responsible for all player accommodations including but not limited to lodging, meals and or transportation to and from the tryout location(s) and/or hotel(s).

Top Executives, Coaching Staffs, Player Personnel Departments and Medical Personnel from all UNGL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation's top football players eligible for the upcoming UNGL Draft. This intense, three-day job interview is an exciting time for the athletes and a vital step in achieving their dreams of playing professional football.

During the combine, medical examinations and drug testing will remain the number one priority of the event, athletes will also participate in a variety of psychological and physical tests, as well as, formal and informal interviews with top executives, coaches and scouts from all UNGL teams. In addition to medical examinations, athletes will be required to sign a medical release prior to any physical activity.

UNGL

Season

The season will start in February 2009 and end in April 2009 (before the NFL draft). There will be playoff games and a championship game. Each division winner gets in the playoffs, and the two teams with the best record get a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The United National Gridiron League did not finalize funding Monday as it expected, and there is a "real good possibility" the Feb. 8 season opener will be slightly delayed, Commissioner Joe Cribbs said.

The UNGL intended to announce Monday its schedule, coaches and team names after holding a two-day draft last week. Cribbs said the delay stems from the league's investors finalizing terms and conditions with banks.

"I have not seen anything that would indicate to me at this point that we're not going to play," Cribbs said.

Asked if the league is in danger of not getting off the ground, UNGL President Ben Eison, a co-founder of the league, said investors are moving forward and to "give us 48 hours."

The plan was for Alabama's players to report on Saturday to Legion Field. If the season is delayed, Cribbs said he believes it would be for a week or two, not a month.

"I realize when we had the draft, everybody's expectations went up," Cribbs said. "In fact, we're very much in control of what we want to do. If we want to move the start date back, it's not a problem. All we have to do is have our season completed by the NFL Draft (on April 25-26)."

Players drafted by the UNGL received an e-mail from the league last week and were told they would receive further information Monday. As of Monday evening, several players said they were waiting to hear back.

"Everybody is skeptical about it. You just don't know," said former UAB defensive end Larry McSwain, who was drafted by Alabama. "It sounds like a legit league, just with the people who are gonna be involved in it."

if he went to cw post why did he not sign with albany?

I'm not real good friends with the guy, I've only spoken with him a couple of times. I do know that he played in the real Arena League last year, I forgot what team. I know it was a plane ride away, maybe Ohio or Chicago somewhere in the middle of the country. He was called up to play in the middle of the season, I think. And towards the end the guy he replaced was healthy and they asked him if he wanted to go somewhere else for the remainder or if he just wanted a flight home.

Heres the funny part...

It was the day before Preakness and he told them to just fly him to Baltimore.

I don't know how he ended up in Florida, I'd imagine he wanted to live there or something. He's good friends with a friend of mine from school, thats the only reason I know him. But I did see him the other night and he did say he couldn't wait to get down there.

Florida Firecats Name Dolezel Offensive Coordinator

January 13, 2009 - arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats

Estero, FL- The arenafootball2 (af2) Florida Firecats named Clint Dolezel as their Offensive Coordinator for the 2009 season today. Dolezel played 13 seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL), most recently with the Dallas Desperados where he served as both the starting quarterback and the team's offensive coordinator. He led Dallas to a 40-8 record over the past three seasons.

"I love the arena game," said Dolezel. "I've been calling my own plays since 2001 and this is a great opportunity for me to keep doing what I love. Florida seemed like the perfect fit."

Dolezel made a career out of setting records. He's the AFL's all-time leader in touchdown passes (931) and passing yards 44,559. He ranks second in career attempts (5,693) and completions (3751). Report: New football league delays start until late March

The United National Gridiron League will not begin play on Feb. 8 as it had planned.

A new start date of March 22 has been set after its primary investor pulled out of his financial commitment, league CEO Marvin Tomlin told FOXSports.com.

League spokesman Tom Devlin blamed the delay largely on the banking crisis, according to a story published in Canton (Ohio) Repository.

The league was set to release team schedules and other information today, Devlin said in an e-mail sent last weekend.

UNGL officials have not returned phone calls and e-mails Monday requesting more information.

The outdoor football league has teams in Columbus; Birmingham, Ala., Shreveport, La; Miami; Dallas; Akron, Ohio; Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Norfolk, Va.

Players were scheduled to report to training camps last Friday but were told via e-mail days earlier it would be delayed and they should wait for further instruction before reporting.

TAMPA - The kickoff of a new developmental football league is now on hold.

FOXSports.com has learned the United National Gridiron League has postponed its scheduled Feb. 8 debut until March 22. League CEO Marvin Tomlin said the delay stems from its primary investor withdrawing from his financial commitment.

FOXSports.com has learned the United National Gridiron League has postponed its scheduled Feb. 8 debut until March 22. League CEO Marvin Tomlin said the delay stems from its primary investor withdrawing from his financial commitment.

"We are very disappointed considering we had everything in place from team rosters to coaches, general managers and stadiums," Tomlin said. "We will, however, use this time period to engage previous investors as well as entertain new ones."

The UNGL still plans to begin play with 48-man teams in eight cities: Dallas, Miami, Akron, Birmingham, Shreveport, Columbus (Ga.), Winston-Salem and Norfolk. The Connecticut-based UNGL hopes to eventually become a feeder system to the NFL and has even met with league officials to discuss the possibility of a future partnership.

The NFL has lost two potential talent sources in the past 18 months with the shuttering of NFL Europa and Arena Football League. The Super Bowl XLIII rosters of Pittsburgh and Arizona feature alumnus of both, most notably Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner.

"Quarterbacks, kickers and offensive linemen are the toughest players to develop," Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome told FOXSports.com in December. "We have to find a vehicle for these players."

Besides the UNGL, the only other notable developmental vessel on the horizon is the United Football League. That group hopes to begin play in September 2009.

this league sucks

As many of you know, our league executives are working extremely hard to make our 2009 inaugural football season a reality for you. In this process, we have been asked by our investor groups to delay our inaugural season to May 3rd 2009. This will be the official start date and also the final postponement. We will produce the 2009 schedule on Friday, March 27th 2009. Also, we will begin to make announcements of our General Managers, Head Coaches, stadiums, additional sponsors and our online TV broadcast partner. You will see an increased drive towards our May 3rd Kickoff. We appreciate all of your continued support and patience as we prepare to Kickoff our 2009 season. This should be awesome!

Now I have something to watch between Feb and April.

Other than NBA, college basketball, NHL, college hockey, NASCAR, Spring Training.

Nothing better than watching potential 7th rounders fighting it out.

I'll stick with Nascar and hoops during this time frame. Hockey totally blows, and baseball has lost it's luster for me. I'm not about to waste my time watching another professional football league come and go like the USFL, XFL, and the Arena Football League did!

The American people have distinctly shown their preference in their football viewing choices...the NFL and the NCAA.
