funny idea a caller on sports radio made

A Postseason Hopeful

Recommended Posts

the caller on 660 wfan today proposed the following idea for improving the Jets next season:

Premise: sign Michael Vick and draft Tim Tebow

Conclusion: run the wildcat offense, since it worked for Miami this year, meaning if we run it also we will make the playoffs

_____ the actual answer _______

premise: the Jets will never sign Vick, and Tebow probably will get drafted somewhere else

Conclusion: The Jets running a wildcat offense would be like the entire Raiders organization. It would be interesting, but never actually work on an NFL level

Wildcat sucks. Sure it works against crappy teams, but the goal is to win the Super Bowl, not just make the playoffs. And that sh!t will be shut down quickly.

And isnt Vick going to be suspended by the NFL when he decides to come back? I just cant see the NFL letting him back anytime soon... plus the PETA people will be all over us- do we really need more negatives around the Jets while trying to secure sponsorship? Heck we lost one because of their connection to the N@zi's.

This idea is one of the dumbest I've ever seen. What we need is a head coach with balls to be creative every single week and lets his coordinators craft game plans around the strengths of the players. We dont need gimmicks. We need good solid coaching and dedicated players.

Like the Pats?

So the first time its used in the NFL in years, and even though it only worked that well one game, we should run it now? I think not. New England shut it down the second time around and teams like the Ravens TWICE gave teams in the future how to game plan against it.

they keeo lining pennington up wid elike that and hes gonna be leveled and have to cart his fragile ass off the field.

That's what I'd do.

I didn't say it was a good idea, but don't give me any bull**** that it doesn't work against good teams. The Pats were 19-0 the prior season and they gave up 5 TDs to it in one game. I don't know the season long stats, but I remember late in the season an announcer saying it averaged over 7 yards per play. That's pretty good, no? Nobody is going to run it full time and this whole thread is a joke, but it's good to keep as an option because the opposing D coordinator will have to spend inordinate time preparing for it.

everything works when nobody has seen it before.

As soon as it was known, the good teams knew how to handle it.

Thats part of having a good coach- a guy who knows how to gameplan and catch the other team off guard.

The original post was Vick/Tebow. The wildcat would be used extensively. That wont get you into the Super Bowl.

The Pats didnt do a good job against Miami this year. They were totally caught off guard week 2 and were blown away by the Wildcat.

Im not worried about averages since they get skewed by big plays and lousy opponents. What matters is how well did it do scoring. And it did ok until they ran into a team that knew how to shut it down... a playoff team.

And the original poster wants it run full time. Thats why its Tebow/Vick.

Max, if you'd like, I could draft a brief I.Q. test which you could administer before granting posting--and, especially, thread starting--privileges on JetNation.

i hope he doesnt do that. because i know that would never score high enough to post on here again.
