I'm so SICK of it (maybe I'm just sick)

I've just heard Boomer Esiason state that "Pittsburgh Steelers fans are the best fans in the NFL."

God, six Super Bowl appearances and five Championships, I don't know how they do it! Do you have any idea how much energy it takes to root for a playoff team every f-ing year? All those extra games tacked on at the end of the season must be exhausting.

They truly are amazing fans, unlike me, who has rooted for a depressing, moribund franchise for twenty seven f-ing years, missing no more than ten games across almost three decades of playing Charlie Brown to Fate's Lucy. Doing healthful, ecstasy-enducing things like sitting and watching every single minute of every single game of a one and fifteen season only to have that followed up by seeing one of the greatest QB's in history decide that he really liked being in college and would like to attend a fifth year even though he could've graduated (oddly enough, Peyton Manning is one of my favorite players. I'll never be accused of holding a grudge) and played for one of the top coaches in NFL history and instead saving what was actually a worse franchise than my own.

I'm not going to go through every bit of history from Bobby Meachem's best friend being taken ahead of Dan Marino or 10-1 and Paul Maguire's a--inine (and, as it turns out, amazingly accurate!) prediction in '86 or Atlanta jumping ahead of us to take Brett Favre only to toss him away for us to collect twenty f-ing years later just in time for him to single handedly ruin (I may be overstating this, but I'm on a roll) one of the most promising seasons I've ever experienced as a fan of the NY Jetropolitans.

Don't get me wrong, there have been some great moments as well, it's just that the perception that NY Jet fans are bad fans because of our negativity is like living in Bizarro world. As a matter of fact, I know it's just the opposite, because the very second I sit my a-- down either in front of the TV or at the stadium for the Jets next game, I automatically become a better fan than any Steeler fan that has ever waved a Terrible F-ing Towel.

I'm not speaking only for Jet fans but for all diehard fans of down-on-their-luck-since-Jesus'-Bar Mitzvah franchises. Brown fans, Falcon fans, Saints fans, Bengals fans.

To Boomer: YOU try and root for your a-- for three f-ing years and let's see how enthusiastic YOU are.

To my fellow Jet fans: You are among the very best in all of football, don't ever let anyone tell you different.

There, I think I feel better now.

Okay, as a 21 year old Jet fan who has attended nearly every Jet home game for the past seventeen seasons, plus a big slate of road games, I can honestly say that Jet fans are NOT even CLOSE to being among the best fans in the NFL. Not. Even. Close. Maybe when our douchebag fans stop selling their tickets to opposing fans every week, for starters, then we can start a discussion.

Then I guess I'll just have to say that I alone am the best fan in the NFL. Tell me differently, go ahead.

Boomer doesn't like Jets fans because we booed him when he sucked and deserved it.

Right on. It's easy to root for a team that has experienced as much success as the Steelers. Just because they wave around those stupid yellow towels doesn't mean they care more about their team that any other fan in the league.

suffering doesn't make us great

it makes us stupid

jets fans show up late, leave early, and are good for maybe 2 good noisy 3rd down's on defense per game, but only if it's close at the end

we bitch about wins, and nobody has ever been good enough to QB the jets

nobody

spare me the excuses about traffic and the team on the field and all the diversions in the NYC area

GREAT fans show up on time, stay to the end, and cheer the home team to lift them up when they need it, not just after a great play

of course there are great jets fans, but it's a small percentage compared to what I saw in Buffalo and chicago

Gastineau, you may very well be among the best Jet fans. I consider myself one. I'm just saying, as a whole, our fan base is nothing to be lauded. This message board is filled with great fans, our stadium usually is not.

I was a preetty intuitive little guy ;)

I have heard many people say that steeler fans are some of the best fans around and it pisses me off too. I have only had the opportunity to go to home colts game but I would say colts fans are pretty good too. Its always sold out and most everyone stays until the end, win or lose.

I like to think that steeler fans are just more obnoxious which makes them appear to be "better" fans.

Steelers fans are one of the best and they travel well as a fan base. Every time the Steelers are on the road there are always terrible towels flying around. They gathered their fan base during their glory years with Bradshaw and the rest.

there were so many of those towels waving in that november game in 2007. to watch them fade in OT to our terrible team was just wonderful! Ty is right, though, there were thousands of them.. didnt feel like a home game. OY!
