Wow, this is honestly the best thing that could have happened for us. The Denver gig was by far the best coaching vacancy out there. The Jets just lost their #1 competitor for any of the potential candidates out there, and it came at the expense of an individual that they weren't even pursuing. Win/Win.

Exactly. Despite what some doom and gloomers around here may have you think, with the Denver job locked up, the Jets now have the best available head coaching job available and it looks like they may be in pretty good shape to be able to get their first choice, whoever that turns out to be.

FYI, full article:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3826234

The Denver Broncos have reached agreement to name New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels their new head coach, team sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Sunday

McDaniels, 32, replaces Mike Shanahan, who was fired Dec. 30 after 14 years on the job. The team is expected to announce the deal on Monday.

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen traveled to Boston Thursday for a second interview with McDaniels, who, according to sources, was one of two finalists along with Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

McDaniels becomes the third member of Belichick's coaching staff to be named an NFL head coach in recent years, following Romeo Crennel, who took over Cleveland in 2005 and was fired after this past season, and Eric Mangini, who went to the Jets in 2006. Mangini was also fired after this season and has since been named to replace Crennel in Cleveland.

McDaniels has worked in the NFL for eight seasons, all with New England. He joined the Patriots on March 1, 2001 as a personnel assistant in the scouting department and assisted the defensive coaching staff for three seasons. He began serving as the Patriots' quarterbacks coach in 2004 and was named offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach on Jan. 20, 2006.

McDaniels began his coaching career in 1999 as a graduate assistant at Michigan State, working under head coach Nick Saban.

yay !

another BB prodigy will run an AFC team into the ground !

and if this is true, and not just a leak to put the screws to someone in contract talks, it makes the JETS job much more desirable

Shanahan already ran them into the ground. McDaniel will just make sure that they stay there. He will probably be another fruit from the Belichick tree that withers off the vine.

What's up with Pioli?

I thought it was a package deal with Pioli & McDaniels.

In any event, like Rutgers mentioned, this is great news for the Jets. The Denver job was the only one available better than the Jets and they hired someone the Jets weren't interested in.

I'd go to Kansas City before I came to New York and delt with Woody Johnson and Brett Favre.

Favre isn't part of the equation...

IF he wants to come back, Woody Johnson will have him here.

Oh wait, thats right, we have One Preseason game against UPS Truck Drivers & 3rd stringers, boy wonder, Brett Ratliff!! Nevermind. We're set.

Every report I see says the Jets are moving on from Favre. As far as Ratliff goes it's gonna be him vs a FA VET in TC and we'll see who wins. Thats how you move forward.

Close except for the fact that Clemens will lead the charge, not Ratty.

It's being wildly reported that McDaniels is taking Capers with him. Not a bad move for the kid. Capers has HC experience and is allegedly a defensive guru. McDaniels is 32. Smart move if true.

If Clemens led them it wouldn't be called a charge, more like a sputter. But after the year Kellen had in practice I doubt he will be leading anything for them.

Wow -- that would put Capers back in line for a HC gig if he could turn that defense around. Not sure why he would leave New England but that works for me.

FWIW, Schefter is reporting that Mike Dolan will be the next Denver DC.

Mike Nolan and i'm sure it was a Bowlen hire

Pretty unique he hires and OC and makes him HC and then hires a DC for the

HC

Josh has very little connections and will struggle to build a quality staff

very odd hire

Yeah, plus he can fix that horrible Denver D.

And a team of kids and washed up vets for a 3-13 season. Yep, KC is so much more appealing than the Jets.

Get real. Seriously. How is Woody a bad owner? This is ridiculous. The guy is willing to spend a ton of money on the team. And Favre? Who the **** is the QB in KC that this new HC going to gush over?

Come on now.

Besides, Herm hasn't even been fired yet.
