afosomf
QB wants to return, but could retireComment Email Print By Paul Kuharsky ESPN.com Archive NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- As disappointed as he was in the ending, Kerry Collins is convinced this season showed he's got a couple years left. Collins Given a chance to stay the Tennessee Titans starter, the free agent-to-be wants to return. But the quarterback said Monday afternoon he will retire if the right opportunity doesn't present itself. "I think I made my case known, that I'd like to be here and feel that I can be a part of several more good seasons and give them several more good years," he said as the Titans finished up their final meetings and left team headquarters. " ... I will pack up and go somewhere else. I don't want to, but that's the reality of this business. "I really like it here, my family really likes it in Nashville, and I think that there is something special here that I'd like to be a part of. But there is a business side to it too and if it comes down to it I've got to be able to pack up and move on," he said. The Titans also have Vince Young, the third overall pick in 2006. Third-stringer Chris Simms is also heading for free agency. Just two days after the Titans were eliminated from the playoffs by a 13-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, coach Jeff Fisher declined to get into specifics of personnel decisions that await the team. But he reiterated what he's said in the past about Collins, who finished with a 58.1 completion percentage, 2,676 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions after taking over when Young was injured in the season opener. Fisher said he agreed that Collins' play indicated he can continue to start in the NFL and understands why the veteran isn't interested in scenarios where he'd be a backup. "Kerry has one or two options in my opinion, Fisher said. "He starts, and hopefully that's for us, or he's on his tractor at his farm." When he took over the job, Collins quickly won over the locker room. "Whether he is here or somewhere else, he's an incredible quarterback, he's a great player," All-Pro center Kevin Mawae said. "Any locker room would be lucky to have him. For us we hope he stays around." Fisher said he thought Young benefited from watching Collins work, dismissed a scenario where Young is not on the roster next season and said that Young will quarterback the Titans again at some point. "This is about Vince Young and this is about spending the time here, about committing himself to the offseason program, just doing the best he possibly can to make ... himself a better football player and take advantage of the experience he gained this year in spite of the fact that he didn't play," Fisher said. SouthernJet
Collins . excellent idea rich..as opposed to great or crap favre/delhomme types a guy like collins could game manage a team like ours with grea OL and run game.. Let Raliff learn along the way but dam, if we had collins we would have been 10-6, 11-5 for sure
DoubleDown
And who do u want? Personally, I would rather have Favre or take a shot with one of our 3 young QB's already on the roster. Collins is an aging system QB, and I do not believe he has the ability to run an explosive offense at this point in his career. What would be the point of bringing in Collins? He's clearly not a long term answer, and he's not good enough to lead a 1 or 2 year charge for the Superbowl.

Tennessee took advantage of a weak schedule and a weak Indianapolis team early on in the season. Kerry Collins was along for the ride. He still did not get it done when it mattered most. At this point in his career, and aside from a couple of years early in his career, Kerry Collins is "Just Another Guy". There are about 25 other QB's who could've managed Tennessee to 13-3 if not better.

When you have a great Offensive Line, probably the best in the league, and a top tier Running Back duo, anyone at WR can get wide open. Try watching more than the Quarterbacks stat line. I'm sure I payed more attention than you did, as I'm sure at such an old age you were falling asleep, but anyway: LenDale White is a good change of pace back for the system he is in. By himself he isn't nearly as good. I didn't drink, not that that is any of your business and yes I know the GREAT Kevin Mawe didn't play. Too bad Tennessee has the best young set of Tackles in the game that you don't hear about because they don't protect Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Tony Romo. Too bad the back-up to Mawae is a guy whom the Titans are very high on and their line didn't miss a freakin' beat without the 15 year veteran out of the lineup. The kid played with toughness and pushed back the Ravens line on multiple occasions. The Titans let up THE FEWEST SACKS IN THE LEAGUE, so how are they not the best line out there? Chris Johnson didn't play in the 2nd half, yes I know that and guess what? Neither did Terrell Suggs, so thats a wash. Just because you're old doesn't mean you are right. Are you even allowed to drink now at such an old, senial age?

Dumpoffs to the receivers, backs and Tight End (Bo Scaife, very good young prospect). Any receiver can get open when Collins is protected for five, six seconds. Their line is the best line in the league, if a QB makes a mistake when he has that much time to throw, he shouldn't be starting.
