I know I had made a thread last summer when I met Pioli on Nantucket Island (I waited on him..and yes, he's a good tipper. very nice guy in fact), but I don't think I ever posted about the second time I met him, aside from telling Max via PM. But one night, I am working a shift and Pioli is with his family in a group of about 8. Over the course of the night, apparently he has been asking the waiter if Josh was working tonight. There were two Joshs at the restaurant (me and another one) and because this one had worked there for close to 5 years, he assumed he was referring to him.

As they finished their meal and were getting ready to leave, I'm at the hostess stand and Pioli walks up to me and says "You're Josh right? You were my waiter a couple weeks ago?" So I said yes and asked him how he was doing. He looks me right in the eye with a smile on his face and goes "You're a Jets fan, aren't you?"

This completely took me by surprise, because I hadn't made it known to anyone in the restaurant that I was a Jets fan. I let out a laugh and said "How the hell did you know that?" He goes "Do you post on a Jets messageboard?" At this point, I started cracking up and I said "yeah, Jetnation.

He told me he had a friend who apparently was on JN at that time (and maybe still now) who was looking through the forum and came across my thread about waiting on him. (and at this point, I'm asking myself "Oh s***, did I trash-talk him?) This friend read the thread and later called him and told him about someone posting on JN about waiting on him.

Anyways, at this point I'm cracking up, and he jokingly says that "if I knew you were a Jets fan, I wouldn't have tipped you so well." He told me he had planned on bringing a Patriots shirt to the restaurant to give to me as a joke.

So we ended up shooting the bull for just a few minutes about living on the island and him going to training camp and then I wished him luck on the season.

All in all, a very nice, down-to-earth guy. I wish him the best of luck in Kansas City.

The rumors that I heard on FAN was that Pioli wanted to hire Kirk Ferentz when he was being interviewed for the Cleveland job. If this is true then it will have little impact on the Jets search.

Some of our candidates are already being mentioned, albeit its early and they are probably just throwing names around. It may however force Tanny to step up his time frame if he is interested in Schotty or Spags.

Former Patriots VP of Player Personnel Scott Pioli has agreed to become GM of the Chiefs, replacing Carl Peterson.

The top GM candidate available, Pioli was decorated for strong drafts in New England. However, there's no way to tell how much input he had in relation to Bill Belichick. Pioli has an enormously tall task in front of him, especially if he wants to install a 3-4 defense. The Chiefs have drafted strictly 4-3 players (Tamba Hali, Glenn Dorsey) in recent years. Pioli's hiring means coach Herm Edwards is almost certainly out. Replacement targets may include Jim Schwartz, Steve Spagnuolo, Brian Schottenheimer, and Kirk Ferentz.

Good. Take them all. Makes our decision easier for Mr. No-decision Tanny.

the chiefs, who have a lot of young players, really need a QB

hmmm

need a QB

cassell to the chiefs ?

maybe this is all an evil plan to trade cassell to the chiefs, and then bring pioli back next year ?

(j/k)

i could see him peddling KC #1 for cassel

Good job Mavrik. I love that story. :-P

If you run into Pioli again make sure he knows there is plenty of Herm material here if he needs to run a background check on him.
