SoFlaJets
what gets me after reading this little thingy here is how the Jets are the only NFL franchise who actually still believe that Brian Schott is a future head coaching candidate....not since Miami contacted him after his first year here have I read ANY-WHERE that ANY-BODY is interested. Correct me if I'm wrong...
rillo
Is it true that Ryan HAS to keep Schott mini? I can't understand why a new 'in demand' head coach will let the organization dictate his staff. Not good IMO.

Montreal Jet
If it was Schotty who decided to have Washington carry the ball 14 times, then he has to go since he obviously does not how to run this offense.

Irish Jet
I'm with you on that Mike. Although I don't see the Ravens letting Lewis go. Bart Scott would be the next best thing, if we get Ryan that is. He got the best out of him in Baltimore and I think he could do the same with him here. Watching that Baltimore defense gets me envious beyond belief just wishing the Jets could resemble it. I'd bring as many of those guys over as humanly possible! slats
...one of the cardinal rules of picking a new head coach or manager: Try to get the opposite of what you had before. That's a common theme. It's how we went from disciplinarian Groh, to players coach Herm, to hard ass Mangini. After those three guys, I was ready for a different kind of opposite: a guy who's already had some success as an NFL head coach. The two best coaches in Jets history (IMHO) had won championships already before they joined Gang Green. I'm hoping Rex Ryan is the sh!t, but I can't say I'm overflowing with confidence. I thought Mangini was a great hire, and even liked Herm out of the shoot. I guess I'm getting cynical in my old age.

Ryan has been a good coach for a number of years and deserves a shot. Previous HC success is no guarantee either, how many coaches have won championships with 2 teams? Just Ewbank, I believe, and noone has won super bowls with different ones. I also don't think it makes that much difference who the OC is if the HC is great. It hasn't made a diffference with Belly or Parcells. Schotty may also have been hamstrung by Mangini for all we know. I, for one, think Ryan or Spagnola would be as good a bet as anyone out there. Pragmatic Bus
the guy in that sny interview said one thing i really like if tanny thinks schotty is the right guy for the job, then put ur neck on the line and make the call, worse case scenerio, we fire him next year and get fan fav bill cowher, even though i'm not that big on cowher. jack48
he might be asked to "consider" keeping him on but no demands will be made or Ryan won't take the job...would you? Yea, me neither.... I am fairly certain that as little as Ryan might have to do with the offense, there will be no empty backfield shotgun on 3rd and 2. Somehow I do not believe that is a staple of the Mangini philosophy either. So who called it? Brett Favre? Gotta be BS. Good point in the previous post--NO ONE ELSE has asked to interview this guy. No matter who the coach is this season, you cant fire them after one year unless its under 4 wins. A rookie coach isnt expected to be over .500 coming into the season. A rookie coach isnt expected to be over .500 coming into the season. Entering this season, who had the most wins in his first year and never coached a second season after that? Answer: Al Groh, 9 wins The Jets are record-setters. I can't believe people don't appreciate them more. And our last three first-time HC's went 9-7, 10-6, and 10-6. Green DNA
My hope is that the Jets are keeping Schott around in a good frame of mind just in case Ryan wants him. If not, then I would assume that Ryan would be free to give him the boot. How they could possibly be creaming over a guy that couldn't get the offense intop the top half of the league in 3 years is beyond me.
