I think its no longer frowned upon for people out of college to use it. It is a pretty convenient tool though, especially when you don't have someones email and stuff. Well the thing that happened was, it started off as a college thing. The problem is, it became huge when I was in college and now me and everyone else my age are long since graduated. So they were faced with a dilemma, either start booting people out who are already signed up, or accept that you'll have non-college folks signed up on the site. So apparently they then decided to make it open sign-up for everyone (you used to need a college e-mail account), so now all these old fogies are signing up and making it decidedly less cool. Where's the dilemma for them? More users = more ad revenue = more money.

Ok, so its not that big of a dilemma, but the point being that up until then, it was designed as more of an exclusive membership type site, and they had to change that philosophy. Although the one potential downside is it could've ended up turning into the same monumental cluster**** that myspace became.

I think they've intentionally sought to avoid that, by not allowing the level of customization and trying to force people to use their real names instead of nonsense like "GaNG$ta 4 Lifeee". The company is valued at somewhere upward of $3-5 billion now, so I think they've done a pretty good job.

I've come across a few people lately who don't have their real names on their and it annoys the crap out of me. I'm not interested in figuring out what random bull**** you're calling yourself these days in order to find your facebook profile. Although now I'm kind of crossing territory between this thread and the pissed off thread. But I digress, its still a little strange seeing some of the people who come on there over the past months. Hence, why I don't have a page. All I need is people I work with friend requesting me... either they think I'm a doosh for not accepting their invite, or worse, they find out too much personal info about me. No-win situation. Jbro22
Yeah, I was in pretty early. When you needed a College email account. Went through all the changes and heard all the complaints about people threatening to leave when they allowed High Schoolers, changed the layout, input the 'feed'. All the petition groups they created against it were so stupid. Those people still use Facebook, now more then ever. Yeah, when you near graduation clean out your photos if you want a job. Simple as that. Unless your making drug deals on your wall you shouldn't have a problem getting a job. Speaking of cleaning out photos, I should probably get busy with that. Doesn't help that I was 1/5 of the village people for Halloween this year. Oh and Halloween must be the most photographed facebook day.

I created a fake profile there to see who my nephew had on his friend list. I think it's funny the way folks befriend people who aren't really your frickin;' freinds! The word friend is truly losing it's meaning.....anyway, it's bullsh*t. Further - sure you can find "old friends" - and I understand how life can be and how you can lose touch - but honestly, if they were that important to me, I probably wouldn't have lost touch. My cousins wife is addicted to facebook too. Nosiest most self absored woman I have ever met. People think I am a gossip hound...ha! not even close! This chick would give Perez Hiltion a run for its money. I hear she updates her "what am I doing" every hour: I'm getting ready to go shopping. I'm writing a report for work. I'm watching my husband paint the home office. I'm watching Lifetime. I'm thinking about getting a puppy for the kids. I'm booking a trip on the disney cruise. At my old school, some chick friended everyone on the school network. I unfriended her and she actually asked me about it. I never spoken to this person in my life. Whats next will Classmates.com explode in popularity? Nope, classmates.com screwed the pooch, they are nothing. It is their own stupidity, they were around before all these social networking sites, but requiring subscriptions to use it just doomed it from day one. You could not communicate with anyone even if they sent you a message unless you were a paid member. What myspace and facebook realized was that if you could get enough people there, you didn't need money from the users because there is huge opportunity to monetize the site in other ways. What I would like to see is a site based on virtually connecting your real communities, ways to easily find all of the people who went to your schools when you did, live or lived in the same neighborhoods you have, and work or worked at the same places you have when you did. You would pretty much just enter your info for these different communities and it would link you up with everyone else who was or is there, none of this actually having to go search out people. Whats next will Classmates.com explode in popularity? Facebook makes EVERYTHING so much easier. If you have friends that is. If your planning a party, you can send out invites and get a rough estimate of whos gonna show up. You can easily have running threads with your whole group of friends. So if I'm bored at work, and someone posts something funny here, i post it on my facebook friends thread. And they all see it. Instead of emails and all that crap. Plus, AIM is dying very quickly largely because people are too lazy to put up away messages, and just don't respond to you. I hardly ever use AIM anymore. If someone is at there computer theres a good chance there on Facebook. And you can as I like to call FaceCreep them. Oh and lets not forget how quickly Facebook ended Webshots. No one posts there social photos on Webshots anymore.
