He's got my backing 100% until proven otherwise. I don't understand how you can be against it? We haven't hit it right for the past 40 years...let's give the guy a chance unless you know more than the rest of JetNation and I'm not talking just about the number 1 Jets board on the net.

Its tough to have a meaningful opinion. He had incredible success as a DC but he was blessed with a boatload of great players. I am hopeful and like the signing. I prefer to have a fresh coach rather than one who has already been a HC in the NFL and might have less fire to succeed.

When all is said and done

1. Schotty

2. Mangini

3. Rex

that is how they will be remembered as coaches in this league. A guy that has Ray Ray, Ed reed, Ngata, Suggs ect doesn't have to be the sharpest tool in the shed. Just has to send out the troops to do thier work

This is for future bumping/"I told you so" purposes.

I'm going on record and saying he has accomplished nothing yet and needs to earn any respect. I'm not sold on him being the right choice.

Im not upset about the signing but I wanted an offensive coach. If he keeps Schottenheimer I'll be more upset, but not annoyed and I'll give it a shot.

Todd Haley would have been my top choice or Russ Grimm.

I wanted Woody to call Cowher back and pay whatever it took to make that happen. When that didn't happen I thought both Spags and Ryan would be good candidates.

Either one could hit or miss. I thought the transition to a 4-3 under Spags wouldn't have been too bad. Gholston would have a home at DE and outside of Pace and Harris all the Linebackers need an upgrade anyhow.

Ryan? His defensive numbers stand for themselves. His team has been at the top and the stats are incredible. He is aggressive which is what we all have been asking for. He is keeping Baby Schott which I wanted. So I am okay with him.

My only concern about Ryan is his mouth. He seems great with the players but I hope he doesn't get into trouble with the media. He seems like he is going to be a good quote which is going to be a problem here.

The players will love him because he seems to treat players more like adults than Mangini did. So I am happy with the choice, I think it could be hit or miss. Personally I would have given Mangini another year to see how they rebounded from this collapse. But that is neither here nor there.

It is Rex Ryan time.

I am totally in favor. No old tired retreads, a guy that is aggressive, creative and really wants to be here. I've heard nothing but good things about this guy. Will he succeed, who knows? We shoud all be rooting like hell for him to become a HOF coach though.

He is our coach now, so I guess we have to support him. He was the best choice, I would have liked Spagnolo, but then we had to change our defense so thats a no go...Hes fiery, hes a big guy (Parcells anyone), and he has his players on his side. Hes bringing a couple horses from Bmore, watch..this will be a a tough year (schedule wise) but it will be fun. ENOUGH ABOUT MANGINI, HES GONE!!

Apprehensivly Optomistic?

I'm in a place in my jet fandom that says the power of the Jets to dissapoint is greater then anyone coach's ability to turn it around, but when I set that aside He has a better chance than most to turn things around, So fingers crossed and let the offseason optomism build.

Wholeheartedly endorse the hiring of Rex Ryan as our new coach...for the many obvious reasons. Great defensive mind and his players respect and play hard for him. In my eyes he clearly had the best reume and most compellling story to lead our team. The other names mentioned with the rings were successful at other places and that usually doesn't lead to the promised land...very hard to climb that mountain in another city and no coach has ever lead more than one team to a Super Bowl victory.

FWIW...for those of you who couldn't answer the question without wavering...take a stand...

One of my favorite media phrases is "cautiously optimistic." It means nothing while it sounds important. Can you think of a situation where it wouldn't apply? (Apocalypse to Strike Earth, Experts Cautiously Optimistic). See! You can't go wrong.

A few years ago, Neil Westergaard wrote:

What a great all-purpose, meaningless qualifier to keep from looking stupid. It's much better than just saying "I don't know." It implies that that the person really does know something important, but is being conservative and careful in the distribution of information, holding back the unverifiable facts for the good of the republic.

Or covering their behinds.

"Cautiously optimistic." If the economy goes into the dumper again, we can say our earlier caution was warranted. If things pick up, we were right to be optimistic and "knew it all along."

Would rather have gone after Gruden, was against the 4th straight unproven HC, but of all the coordinators to promote, I liked Rex better than Schott Jr. or Spags, because I wanna finally see this 3-4 BS work, since it's so f%$king great and it'll be nice to see an attacking defense.

Said another way. I'd love to have a dominating defense.
