Bomb threats......

NIGHT STALKER

Recommended Posts

My daughter is a teacher at a local high school down here in South Florida. They've had three bomb threats in the past two weeks. Last one was this morning and the local police swept the area and found nothing.

Has anyone ever been in a school/workplace where you had to evacuate because of some POS calling in a bomb threat? I'm from an older generation where this kind of crap never happened.

Loads of times. After a while you'd just get casual about it. Early 90's the Loyalist paramilitaries had launced a firebomb campaign in the Republic, and the place I worked in would get the odd threat called in. Our boss was so considerate of his staff, that rather than evacuate, he made us search the place. Thankfully nothing was ever found.

Another time was a friend's 21st piss up session, got the call in, the owner came running up the stairs, told us to get the hell out. The barman was the first down the stairs and away. of course, a few people took the opportunity to slowly make it outside with some free booze...

I'm from a younger generation and even I feel like things have changed... the kids that tried to do stupid **** like threaten people got their ass kicked... most wouldn't even try for fear of getting their ass kicked... lol ... now they seem to be in control over their peers and their teachers...

Yes, about 6 or 7 years ago when I was a Sophomore in HS, we had three bomb threats that year. Once we got out of school early because of it, once school was cancelled altogether because the threat was placed an hour before the opening of the school, and the third time we all were forced to wait outside in the cold while the police came and swept the entire building for a bomb. Never happened again that year or the two years that followed after that.

there was atleast 1 each of my 4 years of high school. they would evacuate the school and make everyone sit out on the football field till everything was all cleared. it honestly really sucked cause they wouldnt let kids that could drive leave. so it was like 2 hours or so doing nothing.

Update...they caught the kid today. The dumb **** called in the bomb threat on his cell phone. My daughter tells me he didn't like a grade he received on his midterms from last week...unreal.

I always think you can trace this kind of stuff back to the parents. If the parents are morons, the kid is going to be a huge moron.

During one of my high school years (can't remember which one, but it was in the mid-90's) we experienced bomb scares every Friday for about 2 months straight. Like clockwork. We had to evacuate the building and either take shelter in the bus garage or in the elementary school up the road. The kid who was calling them in did so from the pay phones right next to the principal's office!!!

Now as a teacher we have several lockdown drills, evacuation drills each year. But since I've been working we have not had a bomb threat.

Someone delivered the flour from the pizzeria across the street to my high school instead back in december 01. I didn't have school for three days.

We used to get 'bomb threats' at our Junior High School in the mid to late '70's all of the time. We kids thought it was hilarious, knowing it was garbage and that some other teenager probably did it from the payphone outside the High School up the road. So we'd sneak off and smoke cigarettes after getting 'evacuated' into the cold, and when it was determined there was no 'threat' (usually by one local cop and the janitor, "Mumbles", who hated everyone on the planet), we'd shuffle back in and get scowled at by every teacher in every class in the school.

Unfortunately, it's a different world, and I'd probably be scared as hell as a kid today under the same circumstances. Can't take anything lightly these days, NS.

P.S.: Haha, "Mumbles", we'd ask him stuff just to hear him curse at us - but you could never really understand him, hence the nickname. "Outta here, sonmothgaffashigyou." "What...?" Then he'd shake his mop and it would only get better. :P
